The Cub has been serving filet and au gratin potatoes since before Will was born. They've probably been through two cooks since him. It's still good. I prefer Anthony's these days but that's just me. 2Johns is great when someone else is paying.

With 8 people, I would call and make a reservation and explain the situation, they have two smaller rooms where they could put you and you'd likely have it to yourself. Same goes for Chianti but it's more expensive.

Monjunis in Ruston changed ownership and name, but the menu and food stayed the same. I personally loved the sweet sauce.

I would stay away from Zocolo - decor/atmosphere/layout there is terrible, which hinders the already marginal service, and if you ask me, even though the Jason Brady group is running it, it is still subpar.

What you are looking for is a tough ask here. Honestly, I'd say consider Country Tavern, easy in/out; some choices on the menu (excellent steaks, good burgers, good bbq) if that fits your bill.

I have been a bit disappointed with Wine Country Bistro since they moved into the Guisseppe space in Uptown Center - I live right down the street in S. Highlands, and we were regulars at the Pierremont Mall space, and something just seems out of kilter since moving - can be pricey as well. Hope they fix it.

Bistro Byronz service will make you pull your hair out. Though haven't been there in months, just because of this. In fairness, perhaps this has changed, and menu is varied, and food is better than decent.

I think another possibility for your criteria is Cantina Laredo - not my favorite Mexican here, but Superior Grill doesn't really fit your criteria, and the other Mexican joints are either chains, or hole in the wall places. There is also Ki Mexico, but it is very quirky, frequented by hipsters and menu requires some experimenting (it is, I might add, one of my favorite places).

Someone mentioned Frank's Napoletano- weeknight prob not too bad, but go before 6:30, or it can get pretty lively even on a weeknight.

Tejas Grill is new, but also quirky menu, frequented by hipsters (this kind of stuff doesn't bother me, but I know it does some), and I was disappointed first trip there by the quality to price ratio - the chef/owner runs one of the best lunch/catering joints in town though.

Bella Fresca meets your criteria, except that it starts to get a little pricey. Weeknights, it's the perfect place for something like you are describing, but again, possibly a little more pricey than you are wanting. Might be worth the splurge for you though.

Someone mentioned Chianti, and that is a place that certainly sees its share of the geriatric crowd. No quarrel with the food there (tortellini en brodo is a classic warm up there). They valet park right at the front, and weeknights are quiet. Good place for what you are describing.

It's open. Went recently. The construction has the area like Beirut after a shelling. You can get there, but parking nearby is iffy.

Ended up at Wine Country. While the food was about 3 stars, but unfortunately, the kitchen rates only 1.5 stars as we arrived at 6:00 and it was 8:45 before we got out. Slow doesn't begin to describe it.

Everything took a long time. Waits between courses were awful. Finally, we ordered dessert. It took 25 minutes, then they served two of the desserts (there were eight of us). Ten minutes later two more showed up. Then, finally, another ten minutes later, the rest were delivered to the table.

Oh, and, best of all, they delivered our checks before they even delivered the desserts. This was really amateur.
