Go to Ki Mexico if you are looking for laid back. It is truly a gem. Get a quesobrosa appetizer (with the chorizo) and a Gringa or a Chiquitabum.
If you are willing to spend a little more, Fat Calf Brassiere is truly exceptional. Another very good choice is Azul Coastal Cuisine in the Whole Foods Plaza. You should get reservations at either of these two places and you can check out their offerings online.
Those three are if you want something you can't find just every where. Superior's Steakhouse is generally consistent if not un-spectacular, if you want steakhouse fare. Bella Fresca is also nice and though the menu rarely rotates, there exection is solid and reliable.
Chianti is another Line avenue establishment that I would call underrated good. Very old school feel, but very reliable - "nice" Italian food (not just a meatball or noodle joint). I'll also vouch for Frank's (his Pizza place - dont' love his other place). Excellent real eat-with-a-fork Neapolitan pizza.

It’s on the Bossier side, but 2 John’s gets my vote if you’re going steakhouse.
Ki Mexico gets my overall recommendation

I throw something completely different. Cajun Asian. It's in a relay station on Hwy1 by the port. It's a sleeper.

Thanks to all that responded. Ended up at Ki Mexico and it was ON POINT !! No other Mesican restaurants even come close except maybe Papasitos in Houston.
