Long awaited opening for Mister Mao is this Saturday. I was fortunate to go to a soft opening last night.

Plain and simple there is no restaurant in Nola like this. Definitely on the foodie end of the spectrum with a real hip/funky atmosphere but the food is absurd. They even have a dim sum cart that randomly rolls through restaurant and you can grab a small plate, off-menu item for a few bucks on the fly.

Items on the cart last night included ancho braised beef empanada, crab and shitake ginger salad, and desert small bites.

It was easily the most unique New Orleans dining experience I’ve had in several years.

Chef is Cambodian and makes exciting food. Highly recommend.

I had no idea that yellow sign in front said Mister Mao. Can’t wait to try it out!

Read the Eater or Nola.com article about it the other day, and it sounds awesome. I’m super intrigued by the different ethnic influences mixed together.

Dick and Jenny’s was down right terrible the last time I went, so glad something new and innovative is taking its place.

Yeah been looking forward to this one for awhile. It will probably be a month or two before I can make it but definitely on my must try list, along with San Lorenzo.

The Mixed Roasted Mushrooms with Sourdough Croutons and Warm Egg Yolk from Costera may be one of my favorite dishes.

The answer to "how was Costera" is always "amazing." Don't think I've ever had anything short of excellent there.

Yes! I would never normally order this, but someone else did and I damn near ate the entire plate.

The shrimp dish is also excellent.

It is awesome. Kicks arse on the usual NOLA style BBQ shrimp.

That was supposed to be me. Had to cancel last minute. Might try again tonight, but doubtful.

Everytime I try to go get the paella something seems to happen.
