Going to be in San Franciso/San Jose area from 10/15 to 10/29. Have reservations for French Laundry and Incanto so far. Looking for ideas/recs for all types of meals from food trucks to fine dining, breakfasts to dinners.

Will be in the traveling in the area from south around Monterey north to Napa/Sonoma and as far west as Yosemite & Sequoia National Park!

Heading to North Star Cafe on 19th and 26th for LSU Alumni view-ins!!!

TIA

If you have the time and inclination, Lockeford Meats in Lockeford. It's off Route 88 between the Bay Area and Yosemite. It's not in the most glamorous part of CA, but the place is simply amazing, and if you want some great no frills Mexican you can find it in the same area (though I couldn't really tell you a specific place to go).

Incanto was the worst meal of an otherwise amazing food trip.

It might be worth it if you get that huge meat thing that Bourdain got, but for that you have to call ahead. We didn't know, so we ended up just getting a bunch of overpriced, very mediocre dishes.

I'd think about changing.

Damn strong list. I had an exceptional meal at Perbacco last year. I would skip it if you do Incanto though. You def. need to post a review of those two.

San Fran has a giant Food Truck "center" where the trucks congregate. I think it's a common occurance. Do you remember, R2R? If you're close, it may be worth checking out for a more casual experience.

North Star Cafe is a blast. If the Saints play that Sunday, check out Black Magic Voodoo Lounge. That place gets intense.

The ferry building has a big marketplace but not really food trucks.

Soo much good food here. Ferry building is legit on thursday/Saturday. Yelp is pretty good here since there are ton of reviewers.

I made this same trip last week. I got some good suggestions on the F & D Board here.

Best food I had was:

1. Carmel: Bistro Giovanni

2. Carmel: Pacific's Edge (good food, awesome view of the Pacific Coast)

3. SF: Chinese at House of Nanking

The food on the Wharf was "ok" and expensive. I probably should have spent more time in Little Italy.

Have fun!

eta: I did Northstar for the GA game and it was legit. If the tigers would have played D for a few more plays it would have been awesome.

We had a great meal at House of Nanking, too...went at 2 pm on a Sunday and missed the crowd. Just asked them to feed us, plus a few added dishes.

Food truck gatherings happen in different spaces around the city. A big one is in UN plaza near city hall in conjunction with a small but nice farmers market. But the permanent park at 11th and Harrison, south of Market St, is daily with about a dozen trucks.

My coozan has lived in SF for 40 plus years and fortunately is pretty well connected having a large court reporting business. She knows Chef Keller well. Prix Fixe dinner is $270 per person service included. [link=(www.frenchlaundry.com )]French Laundry[/link] The menu for today October 1 is just amazing.....I truly can't wait!! Thanks for all the suggestions so far and keep them coming!!

I'm sure you'll get lots of recs on here but wanted to chime in that SF had some incredible food, especially ethnic food. hands down the best mexican food I've eaten. The Italian and Greek food was also excellent. I just went to the Italian section of town and looked up the top places on Yelp and for Mexican I did the same in the Mission area. Surprisingly, the places were reasonably priced even at the nicer restaurants.
