Maybe he would've given them a better sandwich, probably not, but don't we always bash people on here when the have a negative experience somewhere, and run here to bitch about it vs. telling someone in person what their issue was?

So youre going to seek the guy out to tell him that the $14 sandwich you just ate was not very good nor very filling? Get the frick out.

I find the pictures usually tell me much more than the reviews.

Not sure why you're building a straw man.

If I ordered a sandwich and something was wrong (burnt, spoiled) I would tell the manager before I finished eating it.

Here is another place close to me. The guy gets overwhelmingly good reviews and acts like a complete arse when they are not.

I find restaurateurs (and hotels) who feel the need to respond to EVERY negative online review even in a positive manner to be offputting, bordering on creepy.

You gotta let that shite speak for itself. If you're doing right by people it will show regardless of the few people who find negative in what you do (or trolls). If trolls can really do you in, you probably deserve doing in.

No review mentioned a sandwich being burnt or spoiled. It was just mentioned that it wasn't very good, and it was a poor value.

And you're full of shite if you say that every time you've eaten something in a restaurant that you thought wasn't very good, or that you felt was overpriced for what you got, you sought out a manager to tell him so.

Total BS.

Ham with a truth bomb. As if a manager or owner would want to hear personally every single person's small critique of their meal.

I bet this guy would be overly joyous to take a sandwich back and have it reworked.

I agree completely. Their breakdown is:

Excellent-756
Very good-140
Average-62
Poor-23
Terrible-8

If I see that I am thinking "this place must be great!"

Instead even though it's walking distance to my house, I haven't been because they sound like turds.

If helpful I think the response is good. Shows they actual care about customer interaction.

Could always do like Steins and just make it comedic.

I had my rating, don't you fret. I just refrained from posting it because she seems like a nice lady.

Point is, if you're responding to EVERY negative review, it's never going to be just "helpful." At some point you're going to look like sort of an obsessive compulsive creeper. At least, that's just how I see it.

I've been once and had the Korean chicken po-boy, which was great.

Me? No, probably not, but it would be more effective than whining on Yelp.

eta...one time, I did tell an owner that "this was the worst Reuben I've ever had." I explained why in a non-confrontational, sheepish way what I thought was incorrect about it. It helped, got another sandwich. The guy was less than enthused about it, and kind of smugly told me, "well, you can't please everyone."

Don't most people who write reviews and criticize things do so on their personal Facebook, Yelp, Instagram, etc. that shows their real name? Not exactly "hiding." Unless you want to amend your statement to just cover message boards like this one.

Facebook and Instagram only reach audiences who follow the person. Yelp is a first name, last initial or some made up name... and like the OP, you can set it so no one can contact you. It's public and anyone can read it. Same goes for boards like this.

quote:

Where is anyone "blasting" this place? Did you read the OP's review. It was pretty level-headed and honest I thought.

I was speaking generally about restaurant complaints. I thought this review was fair. But being in the restaurant business like niknik was (or is?), seems like she wouldve done it in person. I know she said she was going to, but after checking yelp she didnt want to. It almost sounds like she baited this guy by going to yelp and gave him his own rope to hang himself? Again, his own doing.

quote:

To that the owner in turn responded: "YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!! "

Now, who's doing the "blasting" again?

Again, i was speaking on the general anonymity of restaurant bashing. Im not against poor reviews, but i feel it's fair to give the restaurant a shot at making things right before launching an all out online assault against the place. And again, im not condoning this guy's actions.

If you're Yelp Elite, you're required to use your real name and last initial. Where are you getting that no one can contact me? I get messages and friend requests constantly on Yelp.

Me writing an honest review is hardly baiting the guy. Writing reviews is what I do. Everyone that knows me IRL and online knows this about me.

And if I was really trying to bait him, I hardly think I would've put in there that I would return for the appetizers and drinks.

If I was going to bait someone, I'd do a much better job.

I can see why you don't want to be contacted by business owners...you're a food critic in the making and you want to preserve your anonymity! Congrats to you!

Well you admitted to knowing about this guy's history on Yelp and still chose to review it. Surely you figured he'd respond to your "C" and "D" grades?

Ahh...so you believed what the guy unprofessionally bashing customers and calling them names on Yelp said. Gotcha.

That would scare me worse then telling him anything face to face. I'll say that if I'd read his responses on Yelp, then eaten there and found some things not to my liking, I wouldn't dare approach him directly. His responses read "I am not approachable. I do not take criticism well. I will tell you to go elsewhere if you don't like my place."
