I think most level-headed people don't care much about an owner's personal style, political views, or faults as a human being - so long as they keep it to themselves. This guy decided to put it out there in a public forum that he was essentially better than his customers. Don't think anyone is being unfair in judging him accordingly.
Yes too bad he owns a sandwich shop. He rants before you go buy. I've been to concerts before when I've had to listen to shite. Barbara Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, Bruce Springsteen. I paid a couple hundred dollars for tickets for myself and wife over the years and low and behold I've got to listen to these tards rant on about good ole George W and the MAN fricking them and I remember wishing I had an overpriced po-boy made by some psycho frick instead of listening to this dribble but I'm a paid in advance captive audience.
Of course this was years before SammichDude so I went to Pocorella's, ordered a meatball po-boy and let Pokie bitch slap me for ordering fries to go with that and never felt more at home.
If SammichNazi brings back the chicken livers Yelp be damned, I'm eating.
And no one has answered who the hell wears pantyhose these days?

Are you comparing a sandwich shop to Apple?
a-hole owner v a-hole owner.
Unless you are saying the size of a company dictates how big an a-hole you are allowed to be to customers.
So, if Stein (or his employees) went after a customer and told them to "Get the frick out the store" then you have no problem because he plays the a-hole.

Already been over that. Stein's plays the a-hole, I'm from New York geographical stereotype
Dan's from Philly, brah.
ETA, although I guess, in fairness, they can have an even bigger A-hole stereotype than NY.

He said the livers will be back next month.
Think we need a F&DB party there when it happens.

Tights are not pantyhose. Old church ladies still wear pantyhose. Her tights, IIRC, were destroyed. Not "pantyhose"....which most women call "stockings" anyway.

I think people are more food obsessed now than in the past. Bad word of mouth will have people not wanting to visit because they can't brag on it, not because it is bad food.
Sites like Yelp and Urbanspoon can really shape opinions. Hell, this site can make a restaurant. Look at the hype for Shaya. It is just the modern day word of mouth.
I guess on the flipside at least now, though, you have a vehicle to get in on this bad word of mouth as it's starting, and do something proactive to combat it (and I don't mean sniping back online at these folks).
In the old days, I'd imagine, by the time it got back around to you as an owner, it was often too late to rectify.
I suppose I would probably see it as a net positive, then. But, I've never been in the trenches other than working in restaurants (both front and back of house). That was well before this phenomenon, but I did witness the situation where an owner found out about the bad word of mouth way too late to do anything.

Isn't the smokehouse guy the one who went after the poster "Napolean" bc he posted a negative review? He had to change his TD handle and all bc it was his real name and the smokehouse guy went all back channel and smoked him out of hiding
Wow. WTF? I liked Napoleon and now that you mentioned this, I realize I had not seen any of his posts lately. That's kind of nutso.

I've probably been to Stein's 20+ times and have never had any issues with Dan. He's nice every time. Maybe because I buy a lot of beer when I go.

I'm not saying he is. He's gruff, sure, but not an a-hole really. Certainly not to customers.

Napoleon is what he changed his name to. This happened a few years ago.

Apparently no one actually reads these threads.
From page 2
"When a woman sits at a table with an unsanded underside, as soon as she crosses her legs, her stockings or pantyhose get pulls on them. This will also happen to sweater fabric, silk, etc. "
I'm no slave to women's fashion but I can assure you it has been years since my wife's legs have seen the inside of a pair of pantyhose or stockings and they are not the same HO that I do know.

Same here, but he has the reputation and has taken to social media over bad reviews/reviewers.

No on both counts.
Choosing not to use Apple vs choosing not to dine at the Sammich are quite different decisions regardless if their respective owners are both a-holes. And I don't remember Jobs getting online and bashing customers for each bad review, entering accounts on message boards to reinforce his douchery, and then vowing to never change anything suggested on a certain medium. But continue please....
There's obvioisly a limit that people will take regarding the schtick being used at Stein's. They are given a certain amount of room for that shite because people expect it out of the place. Right? Wrong? It works for them. To answer you're question, I'd never go back if the dude told me to GTFO. But again it's different and you're inability to see or recognize the difference is what has made this damn thread go 19 pages.

What's the difference between pantyhose, stockings, and tights ?

Yes, I doubt any sane person would have the idea to claim that, overall, social media has been a negative thing for restaurants and other small businesses. A lad making that claim would to me seem a bit touched in the head.

That sort of table underside can damage all kinds of materials whether it's pants, tights, a dress, tunic sweater or your bare knees. I'm anti splinters.
