At one time you could buy a sack from Shucks in Abbeville
Heard that D and T crawfish in Abby are selling them now

Picked some off duck lease Monday on coast, they all weren’t real salty. But water was really low and they were exposed so may factor into it. We’re close to Atch river too. But not complaining, shot of Tabasco and a beer they were pretty good.

Yep, sometimes not overthinking a natural good tasting food is best - Capt ST, wishing you a safe and merry christmas - cheers

The best oysters I ever ate came off of Elmer's Island, my son and I found a little bed that was loaded down. I didn't have an oyster knife but I had a hammer, a regular knife and a screwdriver. Since then I keep an oyster knife in my tackle bag.

Anyone know what makes an oyster “salty”? Just the right conditions and luck when buying? I’ve bought them from all over and sometimes they are real salty from say Appalachicola and sometimes they aren’t, same for other reasons. Now I’m sure that some areas taste certain ways on avg.

Conditions, colder the water the better. A hard south wind after a good cold front will make them nice and salty.

Chez Francois on Evangeline thruway (north side near the RR Tracks) should have them.

That makes sense. Water was lower than normal last few days. Probably better now with approaching front. They were working Hell hole bayou daily with tongs. We used to be able to fill 5 gal bucket walking a few yards. Now we have to make several stops along bank to get 5-6 doz. All the beds on lease got covered in mud this summer with storms. I felt kinda bad grabbing the ones that were out. Some were spitting water. I got more Tabasco today, will try them again this weekend and report back on quality.

When I was in Lafayette for Thanksgiving, Rouse's had 12 count sacks for about $8 per sack. They were huge and delicious. Bought two myself, ate some raw and chargrilled others over wood.

I have an Ice chest full of big salty Navy Cove oysters in Meaux right now. Shucking and grilling for the family Tomm. Bon Secour Fisheries ships them. 2 day ground is pretty reasonable. This time of year with the colder water temps they will keep for weeks in the fridge. Thanks for the business Lambdatiger1989!!!
