I agree. Oak Grove is best. SlapYaMama is closest to Oak Grove but not better. Jambalaya Girl was very disappointing.
Disagree. Oak Grove isn't anything special.
Y'all give the La Fish Fry a shot. It's local and cheap. Just do it and come back here and tell me if I suck or not.

Oakgrove is local to Prairieville. Didn’t LA Fish Fry sell to a National company?

Yea some PE firm out of Austin bought the company as one of a bunch of food companies. But La Fish Fry is still a Baton Rouge operation.

Baton Rouge-based Louisiana Fish Fry Products Ltd. has been acquired by an Austin, Texas, private equity firm, ending 36 years of ownership by the Pizzolato family.
An affiliate of Peak Rock Capital acquired the Louisiana-inspired food products manufacturer for an undisclosed amount in a deal announced Tuesday.
The Pizzolato family, which also owns Tony's Seafood on Plank Road in north Baton Rouge, founded Louisiana Fish Fry Products in 1982. The company makes a range of food products including spices, seafood boils, breadings, batters and sauces. Louisiana Fish Fry currently sells its products in grocery and mass market retailers as well as to food service customers throughout the U.S.

Never said Oak Grove was anything special. It's a boxed (or bagged) mix for convenience. I'd much rather do it from scratch but sometimes the box is great for quick/simple meal.
I've had LaFishFry/Zatarains/OakGrove/TonyCh/JambalayaGirl/some crappy imitation from Walmart (made in Pennsylvania/CajunFry/Karys.
To me Oak Grove is the best, followed by SlapYaMama, followed by Karys. Sorry.
And it's cheap and local.

I grew up thinking it was crap. Mostly because all I ever had was benefit stuff made around here, and a lot of it had tomato in it. When Poche' posted his recipe with pics, I decided to try it as a Sunday afternoon cook. I am now a huge fan. Everyone who has had it loves t, and I get requests from family members to make for get togethers.
Got a link or care to post the recipe? I take it it’s a brown Cajun jambalaya, yes? I’ve only used Creole recipes with tomato when making it from scratch. But I always have some Zatarain’s box mixes on hand, of jambalaya, red beans & rice, or a Tony Chachere’s gumbo mix in case it’s late and I have the required meat on hand and especially if I have green onions on hand that need to get used as a garnish. I don’t have any other choices when it comes to box mixes. And I looked for Zatarain’s black beans & rice yesterday just for a change of pace but they didn’t have any. :(

Why is it always a fight on here for people to argue “the best”?
Why can’t y’all just tell us what your favorite is? Why does your favorite have to “the best” and why does it always have to be correct and others wrong?
If you always substitute “favorite” for “best” on this board, this board would be so much better.

Your outrage at the F&D board for being the F&D board is duly noted. You can move on to something else now.

I take it you were replying to my post out of expediency and not in response to anything I said.

My mix of choice is "Smokin Oyster". It's a guy from NOLA, hes' really nice. I think its the best mix I've ever had by far, seriously good stuff. I contacted him and he sent me a cook book too.

It’s hard to fathom craving jambalaya so bad you have to resort to a box version
Because sometimes I want enough to feed 4 people and not 40 people.

Nope. I live west of the Atchafalaya. NO tomatoes.
