Yes, there are prime filets.

There are. I don't believe Ruth's serves them. I've only been to one place that actually touted the fact they do. They're only marginally better than choice and likely you'd never be able to tell the difference. A filet is all about how it's cooked anyway.

I up voted you Y.A. fwiw. The prime designation is more significant on new Yorks and ribeyes. The difference between choice and prime on a filet is negligible if cooked properly.

I have an odd serial downvoter on here. I guess whatever someone needs to get through the day.

You people piss away money on an average chain restaurant.

They serve average steaks and smother them in butter for $50

I would call them above average.

Eating at restaurants in general is pissing away money so who cares about having a nice meal at a ruths?

Or drink at bars.

I send someone for my beer and groceries to bring to me

In an esoteric way I have become this. When I was a $60k millionaire wannabe it made me feel important to eat at these places. Nowadays it seems less meaningful (I'm in my 40's.) I make the best steak anyway.

You would not believe the variances in the different grades of meat. I've seen select graded meat that was nearly white with marbling and choice or prime meat with little or none at all. Truth is that the USDA grade on a given cut of beef is no more than an educated guess. You never really know the true grade of the beef until someone like me cuts it.

I'm not a fan of the one here in Louisville, especially now that the food scene has expanded to the point that there's several places with comparable or better prices I can get a better steak.

Agreed.

Flemings sucks IMO. RC is much better quality and far more consistent overall.

Wait. What? Is it as good as the LC location or is it just a name and a money grab?

lol

I haven't had a ton of steakhouse experience, nor 'fine dining' experience, but I do know one thing: I love the meals at Ruth's Chris. Blue cheese wedge, medium rare strip, the mushrooms and the creamed spinach on the side, plus some good wine and old fashioneds... I love it.

When I worked in the casino industry I learned that when given the choice the vast majority of gamblers would choose a comp to the steakhouse over any other restaurants available. There is just something satisfying about a good piece of beef served in a friendly environment. Good steakhouses understand this simple concept. They also know that the major variables they can't control are the quality of every piece of meat and human error in cooking the meat. So when a customer expresses dissatisfaction with either a good steakhouse will take corrective action. They know that if they make you happy they are more likely to get you as a return customer. And repeat business is essential for a successful restaurant.

The one in New Orleans is hands down the best that I've been to .. The rest have been average at best --- not sure what it is but the Ruth's in New Orleans puts out the best steak in the city while the others are just meh

Agreed. I've been to the one in Biloxi (Hard Rock) a few times, and it'sa very good meal and above anything like Outback or normal steak places, but it's not an otherworldly experience like I recall from each visit in New Orleans (or even Kenner). I think the others are victims of the "franchise" way of doing things, whereas the older restaurants are true to their roots.

I've never had that type of experience in the Laffy Chris'
I don;t go a ton, because I would rather grill a steak at home, but you should have complained. Last, what Mardi Gras ball was going on?
