I've never had a bad meal there either. Can't wait for the new place to open.

I have never minded going to the one in NOLA when my wife wants to go. Its not awe inspiring food,

My problem with RH is it's middle of the pack in it's "weight class".

Several similar style places have better food at lower to same price point.

Ate there last week. I've been to the new orleans location, and it was ok.

This location, however, isn't that good. We got there on a thursday at 7. 1.5 hour wait. So we snagged a couple bar seats and ate. The food just isn't that good. Too much cilantro on everything. We had the calamari as an appetizer. All i could taste was breading, and it tasted a little burnt. I ordered the tacos and each one had 1/2 lb. of cilantro on it. Not one of them was knock your socks off.

It's a good place, if you want a quick lunch or something. But any wait over 20 minutes just isn't worth it. We'll go back, once the hype dies down in about 3 months.

I would assume most go for the atmosphere as opposed to the quality of the food. They serve a "good enough" product in a fun environment, and that's apparently the recipe for 2 hour waits.

Similar to why Port Of Call is always packed. Sure there are better options food quality wise for a burger, but they provide a certain atmosphere.

There are a few and I'm not a fan boy of the Julia St place.

Aren't you a lawyer?

La Casita is the place on Julia, I think Juan's is better then RH and it's much cheaper. Casa Barrega has better food at similar prices.

I'm the first to admit we have a mediocre to crappy mexican food scene.

Honestly, you fricked up ordering.

The only thing anyone should ever get at Rumhouse is tacos.

good catch. ive never dished out $60 for a couple at RH but i suppose most of the entrees i get are a few bucks cheaper, dont really drink soda, and dont do dessert.

for the checks i run, i normally leave feeling pretty ok. OP - next time do some tacos. itll be cheaper and better.

La Casita. And yes, the food is better than Rum House. I'd argue the atmosphere is too, but that's a personal preference thing.

Juan's I'd say is a better value considering portion size, and I think their food is slightly better than RH.

If the BR is anything like the NO location (which it sounds like from the review) it's also the sort of place that I can't really see the point of patronizing if you are not going to imbibe.

Well, yeah. I meant food wise.

If you aren't drinking, there is no point. If my good friend wasn't in management for them, I would never go there ever.

Glad to know there are restaurants that are off limits to former alcoholics in AA I'm being playful with you, but I don't drink, and that sucks that I have to drink to enjoy a restaurant. A bar, I understand. And yes, if I go back, tacos it is!

I realized my point was wide open for misinterpretation and I realized it could be interpreted as coming off that way. I only meant that the place strikes me as much more of a drinking establishment that serves food, than a restaurant that serves drinks.

We've been a couple of times since it opened. I didn't think it was overpriced. The Mr. Biggs taco plate is a great deal -- four tacos, a side and a meat pie for $14. I got the Cuban steak one time, was a decent amount of food for $18. Meat was pretty good too.
Bottom line: It's a fun, casual place with decent food that won't hurt your wallet.
