BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A popular Baton Rouge Taco Tuesday spot will not reopen its doors, despite the state’s latest efforts to reopen the economy.
The Rum House, a Caribbean taqueria located on Perkins Road, announced on Thursday, May 14, the restaurant will not return to business.

“Like most small businesses and many in the restaurant industry, the impact of (the) COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating,” CEO and Co-Founder Michael Buchert said in a Facebook post. “We are incredibly grateful to our Baton Rouge staff for their service and thankful to all our customers

My downvote is about the news, not the messenger... this sucks.

Yeah, I know some people who work there. Not a good time to be finding out you lost your job in the restaurant industry. Tough job market right now.

Wish them all the best. I loved that place.

Underrated brunch

Business beforehand seemed to be slowing a good bit though. Once they didn’t even try to do to go orders I figured they were goners

I recall around 2015 or so you’d have to wait for hours to get in there on the weekend.

I wonder if this will adversely impact Olive or Twist’s business?

I would think that the location is solid and will attract another tenant. Olive should be ok as long as someone moves in quickly.

I think it helped olive early on because yeah you’d go there when you couldn’t get a table and wait but I think it’s developed it’s own following now. Might enjoy the additional parking

Parking is probably your biggest issue at that location.

I wonder if superior highland hurt the rum house crowd?

They also never seemed to make good use out of a great patio, never got that

I hope they can find jobs quickly! I've been seeing restaurants posting job openings.

Tried to eat on patio at olive yesterday. They are closed for what looked like major renovations.

I don't know about that. There isn't a restaurant between Kenilworth and Starring that can last long.

That sushi place, if I am thinking of the same place, has been about 4 different restaurants and cuisines in the last 4 years.

Olive or Twist should look into moving into the Rum House spot. That patio would be huge for them.

It was in the former Calendars. It was Ahuua’s Mexican restaurant then Lassaigne’s Louisiana cuisine then the sushi place. I think that was the restaurants that were in there.
