After much reflection and consultation with WebMD, I have decided to hang up my fork. It’s been a fun ride, but I can’t keep going. I want to become the physical freak that I once was, and my weekend gluttony is prohibiting my aspirations.

I’ll still be making my rounds at my favorite spots. If you see me, throw an insult my way and I’ll purchase you a drink.

This fat guy has sung.

Stay fat, my friends.

Despite my , I understand the need to change.

It would be interesting to see him navigate New Orleans restaurants eating low carb.

Lester Earl is dancing in the streets like the Iraqis when we toppled the Saddam statue.

Food (and booze) can and will kill you. I'm reminded of Steven Shaw, the original Fat Guy of eGullet (RIP); and Josh Ozersky, founder of Grub Street (RIP), who actually died on his way to the James Beard awards.

I remember pounding those when we would go visit New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

That's really a shame, but definitely for the best.

His routine had to be wrecking his body, even with his weekend jogs.

I'm sure the little lady will appreciate his new rock hard abs
