Randol's Cajun Restaurant in Lafayette Closing

For more than 50-years Lafayette locals joined tourists from around the globe to dine on plates of Cajun crawfish and crabs, then dance off the dinner to the sounds of Acadiana music. That era has ended. Restaurateur Frank Randol has closed the doors on his restaurant and associated seafood processing business.
Randol’s Restaurant has been a stalwart known for the promotion of Louisiana seafood and culture.

Let’s be honest. This place has sucked for years now.

The place is an institution. The food was always OK. I have several friends who moved away and when they would come back to visit with their kids, they would always take the kids to Randols to eat and dance.
Also, the Randol family has been very generous without getting public notice. They have donated tens (maybe hundreds) of thousands of dollars in direct scholarships for many years.

Cajun cooking is overrated, unhealthy and pales in comparison to the plethora of healthier and tastier options that were likely not available in Randol’s heyday.

I grew up in Cajun country. Liked the food growing up but a stint in the Army introduced me to foods that I happen to like way better. Hell, the first time I had real bbq was in Denver after high school. I couldnt believe how good it was compared to the lighter fluid and Jack Millers infused shite I grew up on.
I cook all kinds of food and still use the basics of Cajun and Creole cuisine in many things I cook. I just got tired of ettouffes, courtbullion, etc. zero fricks given to the down voters. Y’all gonna die from all that bad eating anyway.

I've only been there a few times and it was some years ago when I took the kids several times to eat and watch the dancing which they loved. All of our meals there were good to my surprise. If I recall, they sold fresh crabmeat and maybe a few other things out of the restaurant. I remember whatever I ordered with crabmeat was fresh and I enjoyed the seafood gumbo.
I don't know if I'd have gone there again, but I do hate to see it closing. It was a fun time for something different. The folks there always looked to be having a good old time and tourists enjoyed the show.
ETA: I remember the crawfish bisque with boulettes being very good as well.

Any word who bought the place?
Probably gonna be another Legends.

I think they stayed alive pre-Covid due to tourists, more than locals.
I don’t care for Frank Randol. At all. The food was sometimes good, more often mediocre, and occasionally bad. I’m still sad they’re closing due to people losing jobs, one less venue for Cajun bands to play, and one less dance floor for some fun Cajun two-stepping.

Word on the street is that Superior Bar and Grill bought the land and is tearing Randol's down...we shall see.
