Watching the Rachel Ray show and she explains how to cut an onion. I think she calls the ends opposite of what they are. Unless I'm wrong.

she's right about cutting horizontally into the onion. slows you down big time, unsafe and it really doesn't matter for most uses.

I cut my onions just like she's doing. But I was surprised when she said the top has the little hairs.
I know she has cut thousands of onions, can't be she doesn't know the top from the bottom.

It's amazing how many people don't know anything about cooking. Even the stuff that most amateurs consider common sense ( my wife is a perfect example!)

That’s how I do them. Figured most people already knew this way.

The “hairs” are roots, which are the bottom not top.

But I think she knew that and was saying to put the hair/Head end on top, away from, for cutting. That makes sense because the root end will hold the onion together while you slice or dice it.

Rachel took a lot of shite for posing for girlie pics in a lad mag when she first got famous. She said, hey I’m only gonna be young and cute once, and I’m running out of time. Glad she didn’t wait.

i haven't seen her in a few years. She's really aged. There was a point a decade or two ago that she was legitimately hot.

I don't know why people always cut it in half to chop onions. You can decrease your time if you cut the top and bottom off, place on newly exposed flat side, cut down most of the way through in one direction, turn 90 degrees, repeat (it should now resemble a bloom), and then flip it on it's side and chop.
