Price? I have no idea.

But growing up, my mom had a rule for me and my brother and that was "whatever we killed, we had to eat it"

and since we were raised in woods, we killed a lot of shite

so one day we brought home a raccoon and asked her to cook it for dinner and she politely obliged us

maybe it was how she roasted it, but that was some greasy, nasty arse meat

Had it once as a kid and that was my exact experience too. Just a greasy mess. Maybe it was how it was prepared, I don't know, but I don't have a lot of desire to revisit that one.

5 for the medium sized
8 for big fat ones

Gotta go across the tracks for those cash prices though.

Treefiddy a pound, "On the hoof"

You should try the farm raised Raccoon. Piggly Wiggly has it. Nice flavor in a gumbo or etoufee. Better with a little buerre blanc sauce over pasta and a nice Merlot.

You have to remove the musk gland or it is inedible. If you do that, boil it for a bit then discard that water and braise with vegetables and stock it isn't that bad. I've had it slow smoked and didn't like it that way but braised it works pretty well. Put mustard greens in the pot too and serve over rice.

It is better than oppossum and nutria. Not as good as squirrel.

And that is one skinny coon.

Not sure, but I used to work with a couple guys that cooked it up real nice.

It is greasy, however.

Ahhh....an Aristocrat.

I like squirrel cooked down in a nice brown gravy. But saw the skull in two and pick the brains out, saute' in a bit of bacon fat and butter with salt and pepper then serve with soft scrambled eggs. Great stuff.
