Never eaten raccoon and I've always heard it's very greasy no matter how it's cooked. Enjoy OP

Some buddies of mine went up to North Baton Rouge and bought coon, while folks were at the Spanish Town Mardi Gras Ball. Guy came back from the ball and found this nasty greasy meat wrapped in foil. He was griping about it to a guy who grew up on the bayou. "Well, yeah. You can't eat city coon. Those things eat garbage and dog food. You need country coon. They eat nuts and stuff."

That pic of the trailer is in Port Gibson ain't it??? That guy sells watermelon too. Probably the richest man in that town.

In the 70's, I was getting $15-$18 per nice, XL coon hides,, and the "entrepreneurial" lady down the road from the fur buyer, gave me $4 a round for the meat. Coon hunted all night, deer hunted and ran trap line during the day. Provided lots of "spendin' money".

No.... Definitely not, it's not what you would call a "me too" meat!
Man, that was a great and exciting Saturday night for a country kid, to go to a cousins house, (they were wealthy, had an air conditioner AND a TV), to eat coon, sweet taters and watch the Tigers play. In the same night!

The guy who runs this place in Coushatta often has a handpainted coon sign out there. I guess he was out the day I took the picture.
