a lot of people start drinking water in the place of soft drinks .
This is what i have done, i think i have tried to drink a coke once since i started and it was so sweet to me that i poured it out after a few sips and made some water. All i am drinking right now is water with the occasional cup of coffee in the mornings.
Down another pound off of last week, it was kinda slow, I actually went up a pound last friday, but since then i have dropped 2.

P90X update...
I'm still riding the bike in the mornings (3-10 miles, it just depends on mood).
But, this morning I woke up and I have biceps again! It was like magic. And now, I'm beginning to see the outline of my abs again. It's been such a long time and a great feeling. Yes, I'm sore and it's tough, but it's a good soreness.
Not losing a ton of weight, but it's coming down some and I'm sure a lot of my fat is getting replaced with heavier muscles which I'm fine with.

its amazing how fast the definitino happens.
i read on men's health that its a complete waste of time doing situps/crunches until you're down to about 10% body fat because your abs will not show through your fat even if you do 50,000 situps a day.
once you're where you need to be, doing crunches & ab exercises for like 3 weeks will make you look like a rock star. there's no need to beat yourself up doing shittons of situps until you've lost the fat because its pointless.

Thanks CAD and Myth for the support. It's really amazing to think I am doing the very thing that I always wished I could do. You see those people on TV infomercials and whatnot and I'd think I could never look like that. Well, I may not end up looking like that exactly, but I see the potential to get in the best shape of my life. If I'm seeing this much progress in two weeks, what will I look/feel like in 90 days? I'll keep updating.

Everyone, and I mean every human has abdominal muscles. These spinal stabalizers are often refered to as "the core."
The reason that you don't see abdominals ("6 pack") on many folks is because there is a layer of subcutaneous fat obscurring the definition. This is the case for nearly all muscle. So if you eliminate fat, muscles including abdominals become more visible.
This is abundantly apparent in competition bodybuilders. This is an extreme example but observe the photographs of Lee Priest:
In the first photo, he is still has a ton of muscle mass. The striations are just obscured by fat. Before anyone claims that Lee Priest is on steroids, that is a fact he has publicly admitted. He is "on" in both photos. The difference is training programs but more importanly, diet.
I realize most folks would never want to look like a pro-bodybuilder. This is an exaggerated illustration of how bodyfat levels can vastly change appearance.
The human body carries fat everywhere, not just in the stomach. How and where your individual body stores fat has to do with your hormone profile but that can get a little complicated.
There are arguably better ways to train your abs than situps and crunches which is repeated spinal flexion. But if you are doing that kind of work to improve their appearance, you will have much better results focusing on what you are doing in kitchen.

1/2/2011--246/228/210. Haven't really started busting my butt. Just watching calorie intake, drinking lots of water and still haven't had a soft drink since this began.

Great job! Keep it up.
I'm not sure if I have had a coke in the last 11 months. I bet it would taste like a dessert drink if I had one now.
I have had a few diet drinks when over at my mom's or at my dad's house.
Calorie intake really is the MAIN way to lose weight. Heck, I didn't even start walking until I had lost 60 or 70 pounds. Plus I've been lazy as hell since November and I have continued to drop the weight.
Now that the weather is warming, I don't have much of an excuse so I will get back on the levee at least until it gets too hot to be out there.

GET A BIKE!! IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
Here's my baby. You spend a couple hours on this and you'll burn some serious calories and develop some massive quads.
plus racing bikes are fast as hell.

see, but wouldn't you need to do some type of ab exercises to get rid of the fat already there?
Or at least do AB exercises to start tightening up?
i mean, not everyone is trying to get a six pack look. A lot of people are just trying to lose excess fat in the midsection, and i would think doing some type of exercise would help promote that rather than doing nothing.

oh no doubt. the more muscle you add to your body, the better your metabolism. i'm just pointing out the biggest issue with ab defininition is people get frustrated when they do all these ab exercises and can't see them...well its the diet stupid.

i would think sit ups and crunches would at least speed up fat burning in the abdominal area ..

I hit a new low.
I have bounced around 236 for several days and seemed I would not crack the 235 mark. I looked back at what I'm eating on the past week and found a problem. I thought it would be sodium again, but no - LACK of WATER! Somewhere over the last ten days, I slowly cut my water intake in half. I'm a dumbass.

I'm the opposite. The hotter it is the more I am likely to be out there.
95 and 95% humidity is way better than 75 and 60% for me.
If I'm doing it, I want to know it.

This is refered to as "spot reduction" and for the most part, it's a myth.
The human body stores fat all over. So when you lose fat, it will take it from everywhere as well.
Where an individual stores the most fat has to do with with their genetic predisposition and individual hormone profile. That's why, generally speaking, women tend to accumulate fat in the hips and thighs while for men it is low back, love-handles and stomach.
Continue working hard in the kitchen for the best results. The best exercise for losing fat? Table push-away's.
