323/225.2
8th day of the 225 plateau. I thought I was going to easily reach my 220 12-31 goal but I seem to be dead stuck on this plateau. Even Atkins isn't doing any good.
I'm loathe to try and kick start things with a big meal because Christmas is so close and I know I will eat too much then.

216.6 this AM and I bought a couple new pair of jeans yesterday
. Glad to stop wearing my old baggy arse ones, great motivation. Going to BR later today, first round at the Bulldog is on me

I'll have a margarita on the rocks with salt. What time should I show up?

Something to think about. You have the rest of your life to eat properly. Don't get too frustrated by goals and don't think of this as ever ending. ALWAYS will be a work in progress.
Just sayin.

It gets easier over time, I think. Now, that I've introduced exercise into the equation, I find it is much easier to stay on track. I have noticed that I don't have as many cravings for bad foods, too.

Is there gonna be a new thread for 2011? I've finally decided I can't live a gluttonous lifestyle anymore and need to do something about my physical well-being. I currently stand 6'4" and carry approximately 350lbs. I have obstructive sleep apnea, high blood pressure and hich cholesterol. I'm tethered to a BiPap machine to sleep and have to take Tekturna for HBP and Lipitor for HC. My knees ache, my back aches and my feet constantly hurt. Clothes don't fit and I can't do any of the things I did up till a few years ago.
When I got married I was 180lbs and can't believe what I've done to myself. So, for 2011, my goal is to get into some reasonable shape. I'm going to have give up fast food and most alchohol. I will have to exercise and count calories. This is gonna be tough, but I'm only 43 and need to do this for me and my family.
Still can't believe what I've done to get here...

No need to start a new thread. I will still be here on this one.
I'm 42 and started back on March 16 at 323 down to 225. So it can be done.
I'm single so it will be harder for you since you can't limit all food in the house but hopefully your wife will toss in full support and cut down on what food is in the house.
Alcohol is a problem because it makes you hungry and destroys your willpower so you will need to cut that down too while on the diet.
Start walking. Even if it is just for 10 minutes. Try to walk a little bit at least 4 to 5 times a week.
Stay away from pretty much all processed foods. They are drenched in sodium and so is all fast food.
I estimate I was eating about 6k mgs of sodium a day before I started this diet. Now I am down to about 1200 but that is perhaps more than most people can take to cut out.
As people have said on this thread. Move more and eat less.
At your weight, initially try to cut down to 2000 calories and walk some. You should lose weight pretty fast the first month.
As your body gets used to 2000, then you will need to cut more out.
Try to avoid most carbs like bread, rice and pasta.
Try to find a few veggies you like or can at least tolerate and pair them with chicken, hamburger, steak or fish. Do NOT go overboard with salt seasoning them.
Almonds or string cheese for snacks. But beware of going over the serving size with almonds.
Good luck! I'm here for support all the time as are the others in this thread.

Water. Even if you hate it, it is your new main drink. I drink 64 to 96 ounces a day. I always have a 32 ounce water bottle around me.

One more key point.
ONE DAY AT A TIME....
Don't think about it like you have a rough year of dieting ahead. Don't ever dwell on this. Simply take it one day at a time.
You will slip. Don't use a slip as an excuse to quit. It is simply one bad day which in the long run of this diet/life change does not matter.
Just keep at it.

Plateaus in the months of December and November are a good thing, if you are not gaining this time of the year, you are in good shape.

chip .. don't beat yourself up over it at all man .. it can happen to anybody .. like myth basically is saying .. food-wise, there are land mines everywhere out there with all the processed foods, fast foods, all the convenience stuff ... just remember, it took you a long time to get where you are weight-wise, and it won't go away overnight .. it will just be a lifestyle change ... no need for fast, crazy diets ... it is all about calories in vs. calories burned ... if you have a smart phone like an iPhone, blackberry, etc. .. a lot of people rave about the livestrong app ... it has a daily food diary/calorie counter so that you can track your progress .. also, it has a pretty impressive library of nutrtional facts on everything .. you type in "mcdonalds quarter pounder with cheese" and it tells you the calories, sodium, cholesterol, etc .. one thing i want to mention to you is that my mother's physician had recommended to her to take co-enzyme 10 or Co-Q 10 with her statins .. this is recommended for people taking statins .. you may wanna check into that from a cardiovascular standpoint if you haven't ... best of luck to you !!

welcome...
lots of good advice for you already, the only thing i'd add is to write down what you're eating for a few weeks. get a good idea of where your problem is. you have to figure out what you need to change before you can be sucessful in changing it.
cut out cokes and fast food to start, then start looking at what your problem areas are. do you snack to much, are your portions too big, are you eating out too much, etc.
good luck, anyone can do it. get your wife involved too, it will make it easier. make her hold you accountable, and maybe ya'll could work out together?
myth, will you please hurry up and lose those last two pounds?

Ha. I was so darn worried about reaching my year end goal I forgot I am just 2 stinking pounds from the Century mark.
They are just refusing to come off. Longest plateau of the diet.
I'm going lower calorie next 2 days to see if I can shock my stinking system that way.

This is a must! You have to know what you are eating so that you can know what not to eat. I have been doing this since the end of August using a spreadsheet method. Was a bit surprised at the calories and fat I was consuming.
Best of luck and look forward to your weight losing posts in the new year!
