Good news, I just learned how to upload a pic to this site. Very simple process for the most part. At some point this weekend I should have the before (255) and after (205).

Awesome. Ok guys, we all show up Mon to get a lie detector administered to see who cheated and who didn't
Maybe Lester Earl will volunteer to interrogate us

Ha, no need to worry about me lying. I air my dirty laundry all the time.
Unfortunately, been a lot more dirty laundry lately.

cm.. would doing some sprinting workouts here and there also help with conditioning and stamina on the longer, less intense runs? That's what I've read a lot of triathletes do.. bursts of intense training every few days with less intense workouts most days. Supposedly helps build strength and endurance..

I'm not nearly the expert CM is but I've added sprinting to the end of longer runs. I don't know if it's just me running more that's the bigger impact but I know the longer runs are a lot easier now. I'm actually nervous about this 20 minute run. I want to think I can do it but I'm skeptical.

Just saw this on the last page. Thanks CM! I'm on week 5 day 3. Seriously man thanks for the advice. There is a running store here and I really need to get with them. They do classes on proper running form and they have a lot of group runs through the week. Today will be the first time I actually run a whole mile without stopping so I should have a more accurate idea of what my per mile time is. I know with the wakling it gets weighed down.

The couch to 5k running plan tries to get you to run a 5k around 30 minutes. The 20 minute no stop run is a big step but you can do it. Take it easy if you have to, but do not walk on the 20 minutes. Sounds like you are on week 6? Based on that information and that the race is in September. I think if by the end of July you could have an average pace of 10:15 to 10:30/ mile. From that time to race day you could be around 9:00 - 9:30 / mile. At that pace you will be sub 30 minutes which is good. As you prepare for the race once you can run the distance, you'll need to go for even longer runs (4-5 mils), and you should also have shorter runs that are for speed work. If you want more information on the types of runs that can prepare you for the race, just let me know. So, to answer your question, running a sub 30 minute 5k is a good goal. In most 5k's that will have you in the top 65%.

I wouldn't go as far as saying I'm an expert (per beagle). I think the most important part first is to be able to run 3-4 miles before you could really benefit from speed work. The speed work will give you better endurance, but as I stated above you have to establish a baseline of sorts. Let's think of it this way, you can run 3 miles in 30 minutes, but you can't get below that. You need to change it up, so you'll do speed work, where you cut distance in half and run much faster in intervals. This is kinda the same to being stuck at a weight for a while and doing a 24 hour fast to get you rolling again.

I didn't run 20 minutes straight.
I ran 24.
I ran about a 12:30 mile although that does include some of my warm up walking and a little walking after the 24 minutes. I will mention that I am running on a trail with a good many hills and I've read that your time will be slower on trails than on the road.
This is how I feel right now...

Beagle, good run. I hope the trail had some shade, because it's warm over here.

It has a ton of it thankfully. The parts that didn't though....... It would be my luck my first big run was on the hottest day of the year. We hit 107 today, at least that's what the car said.

I ate a little too much last night but I wouldn't call it a cheat. I felt my willpower wavering so I had some oatmeal to stop me from heading out for ice cream.
I dropped from 178.5 to 174.5.
The removal of the water weight from the Wednesday debacle and an enormous deposit at factory outlet are responsible for the mega loss.

Hovered at 185-186 for this week- didn't feel like cooking at all (too damn hot). This morning 191/184.5/170.
Probably only had about 100 calories so far today, so I'm trying to be really really good and get below 184 (my low this time around). Got a doctor's appt coming up and I want to be 180 or less so I gotta kick it back in gear.

I would like the opinion of this thread on a matter. Here's the situation. I want to run The Boston Marathon and there is two ways to get in. 1. Meet the qualifying time ( 3 hours or 7 minute mile pace) 2. Get selected through a charity, and raise around $5,000. It's unlikely I meet the standards to option 1. However there is a charity I support. It's the melanoma cancer foundation. I had basil cell skin cancer removed from my neck at 24 years old and I have uncle fighting skin cancer now. So this charity is something I believe in. I found out most the runners frown upon those runners who get in through this method. Do y'all think I should try to fundraiser method or not.
Side note: after this year my wife and I will be trying to have children and the odds of having enough $$ to go in a few years is not likely, so it's now or never. (OT kinda poor).

CM try going for the fundraiser. It's worth a shot and if it's something you have as a goal then go for it. As a father of 4 I know what you mean about having a child and that can dip into your finances, however one isn't too much of a strain. Our middle 2 kids are twins and the diaper and formula bill was a bit hefty at times!
