Thanks, makes sense.

I am amazed at the amount of contradictory information/myths out there in the arena of diet and exercise.

It is remarkable

There's 1 tried and true way to lose weight:
Eat less, move more.

How much to eat, how much to move is all up for debate.. but as long as you do those two, you'll lose!

Or get mono LOL

13 years ago I went on a 331-180 pound run... and then got mono which dropped me to the mid 155's.... skeleton bones and all... actually freaked me out (I am 'big boned').

Well, sicknesses aside

I have a lady friend that has Crohn's (sp?) pretty bad and it keeps her skinny as a rail.

So according to the article, you'll still burn overall more fat calories if you do intense workouts, but a smaller % of the calories burned are from fat.

Basically just corroborates what I was saying earlier.

I think it's why a lot of body builders go through bulking and cutting phases.

It's difficult(damn near impossible) to add muscle and lose fat simultaneously.

Since it is near impossible to lose fayt and gain muscle at same time, does that mean lifting weights while doing significant cardio doesn't do much?

Lifting weights actually tears your muscles and breaks them down. When you sleep at night your muscles are repaired. Do that enough and you gain muscle.. especially if you have a high protein intake.

It certainly doesn't hurt to do both. You need to get plenty of hydration and protein for your torn muscles to repair themselves.

But if your only goal was to add muscle then you probably shouldn't do a whole lot of cardio.

High intensity cardio will start eating at your muscle mass. Which is why if you're trying to lose fat you shouldn't do high intensity cardio. You should try to stay within your target fat burning zone because a higher % of the calories burned will be fat calories.

So while at wal mart I found a white wine.. Barefoot Moscato california.. 8 bucks on sale

It's actually pretty good though and like I said I don't usually like wines. Bout to cook with it.

eta:
Food was fking delicious. Took stew meat, 1 large onion, 1 small can of shrooms, drained. Took about 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbps butter and browned the stew meat with some tony's. About halfway through the browning process I threw in the mushrooms. About a minute later I drained the meat from the oil/butter and continued to brown it and made sure it stuck just a little. Once the meat was good and brown and there was a good amount of "gremis" as my grandmother would say, I put in about 1/4 cup of white wine, scraped the bottom, lowered the temp to medium and covered. Let the meat cook down until the wine was all but gone, put in a cup of water, scraped the bottom again and once the water was almost all gone the meat was nice and tender and had a nice little gravy on the bottom. Ate a spinach salad with that.
I'm no chef but damn it was good. It was TOO good, I overate

Nice Hulk. There are a BUNCH of cheaper white wines that are good to cook with. Barefoot, Little Penguin, Schmittsohne and Cavit are all pretty good white wines to drink and to cook with. All should be around $10 or less per bottle. I know some people who drink and use woodbridge which is usually $5-6/bottle. I'm not a huge fan, but by the time you add it to food, it's probably fine.

As for my check in: 200/192/170.

Got down to 191, and have been slacking a little, but I'm keeping the weight that I have lost off, so that's OK with me for now. Easter's going to be a challenge with crawfish/shrimp on Saturday and ham, potato salad, baked beans, etc. And of course there's Easter candy. I'll try and be good.

Way to go to everyone, and it's good to see this thread picking up steam again.

Good job bud

363/337/250 daaarn I'm worried I'm not going to hit 333 by Monday!

I keep waking up very shaky and weak and can't control my body movements very well. Lasts about 5 minutes after I wake up. Stops whether I eat or not. It makes it a real pain in the arse to get my weight because the scale constantly errors because I'm shaking and not stable enough for it to catch my weight. Comes with a little lightheadedness but not dizzy. I would normally think this is due to my hypoglycemia but it happens right when I wake up and stops whether I eat or not. It's been happening pre-Atkins but it seems to have gotten worse. Any ideas what that could be or does anyone else have that problem?

Hulk, I'd see a doctor about the shaking and dizziness. There are some things you don't want to trust a message board for, even one with people who care about you.

The sugar free (splenda sweetened) version of this is freaking awesome, and no carbs.

That is all.

I know. But I have a lot of bills coming at me right now and can't go to the doc for a couple more weeks. Once I get my refund from the insurance company for my rental I will for sure though.

1 more to the halfway point. Had a weird thing happen, weighed 227 Wed. Then 230 Thur now 226 Friday. Thought about it and realized I had eaten a bowl of frozen fruit from Wallyworld. Wife eats this as a nighttime treat, went and looked at the bag, figured I had around 50g of carbs. Guess that explains why my grapefruit, apple, and orange thing didn't work that time. BACK ON TRACK, and heading for the halfway goal

Hulk, not to get in your business...but your health should be your primary concern....do you have a credit card...??..I'd put the other bills on the back burner and see to it that I had a Dr's appoint stat!! Call the businesses that you owe...and work out a plan with them....

This has been happening for over a year. I'm not overly concerned about it. I grew up without health insurance, and I still forget that I have it and don't use it same with my vision and dental

I had a credit card, and when I got laid off I maxed it out on food and bills besides draining my savings. It's now expired and I'm still paying on it, as well as a credit card from my mom after she passed.

And the bills I have coming are rent and auto insurance. Neither one will be flexible with me.. Rent is rent and if I'm late there are hefty late fees and my auto insurance expires on the 26th so it needs to be renewed, they won't let me get extra time for free. I can probably afford to go to the doc since it's only $25 copay but if he wants anything more I can't.
