Gotta get yourself out of the comfort zone more than that
You need to get your heart rate up in the 140-160 range to start burning fat rapidly. And you'd be surprised that's a pretty tolerable level of cardio work. And once you get that heart rate just try to maintain it for about 20 minutes which shouldn't require much effort.

Hulk's a big guy. A very brisk walk may put his heart rate in that target zone.
Powerman is right that you need to get to a certain target zone with your heart rate for both weight loss and heart health. It's pretty easy to check while exercising to see where you are.
There are tons of websites to help you figure your target heart rate based on age.

Well he's also tall
I used to be almost his weight and am about 7 inches shorter. And I was a smoker. And I still had to eat least jump on the elliptical machine to get my heart rate into that zone. I could never get there from walking.

edit: I looked up how to check it. At rest atm, 76 bpm

How did you quit? Thinking about the gum method. I want and need to quit.

I quit since I started as well. Just cold turkey.

I didn't.
It's kinda like Mitch Hedberg's views on drugs.
"I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to too."

I'm not sure what the formula is for your targeted heart rate but I would think that getting somewhere between 150-170 would probably be a pretty good heart rate zone to burn fat.
Since we're interested in losing weight we don't need to push ourselves beyond that threshold because the % of calories burned that are fat start dropping if you do really high intensity cardio and you start chipping away at muscle which is not desirable.
I find the best thing to do is to just push yourself for a few minutes to get your heart rate up then coast and do just enough to keep your heart rate at about that rate. You certainly don't need to get too far out of the comfort zone. It's all about time spent at that heart rate zone. Things like distance traveled really don't mean anything.
Since I hate doing cardio what I usually do is warm up doing some exercises like quad extensions and some hamstring curls. Then I move onto the leg press machine which uses a lot more muscles and gets your blood flowing pretty quick. By that time my heart rate is up and I just get on th elliptical machine and coast just to maintain that heart rate.

Nice job Myth. It's always nice when you can enjoy a nice meal and still make progress.

I've never been a fan of any wines. But I do need to grab some cheap red and white wines to cook with. Could I get a decent tasting bottle of white wine to drink for like $20 or should I expect to pay good money for anything half decent?

Hell if I know, I never have gone down a wine aisle looking for wine, aside from when I worked at a grocery store

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio is under $20 and is great for drinking and cooking.
I just wish I'd see more studies about the benefits of nightly scotch abuse.

is it just me or has this changed over the years? this used to be my go-to wine but lately it doesn't seem to taste quite as good as it once did.

definitely not as good as a few years ago but its the only one my wife drinks. Thus the fridge never lacks a bottle.

I'm off my plateau.
I was stuck at 230 for 11 straight days eating little.
I started bike riding on Sunday (7 miles) and then again yesterday (8 miles) - all with lots of hills - and I've started losing.
Plus, I'm eating even less. Less than 1000 calories a day. I know that's not sustainable and I have no intention of keeping this up, but I had to get moving again.
I've lost 3 lbs. since Monday.
So, I started this around March 1st and have lost 28 lbs. since then.

I'm doing this really hard until Easter Sunday, then I'm going to live normal for a few days. All I've eaten this week has been meat (lean), fruits, vegetables, and some white beans - like, a few beans in a vegetable soup one evening.
I'll have a higher calorie day soon to keep my body out of starvation mode.
