re: Power was out for 16 hours. Is everything in the fridge bad?

is not room temperature.
It was likely 35-38 degrees when it lost power. After 16 hours, it's still not room temperature I'd definitely smell test leftovers and dairy, but I definitely wouldn't throw everything out.

I don't think he's saying your copy paste job is the bullshite. I think it's your douchebag attitude he's talking about.
I could be wrong.
Risk is a spectrum. Guidelines have to go for the lowest risk. Restaurants will often push them a bit. People a bit more.

Which is why I say if you give it 8 hours TO GET TO ROOM TEMPERATURE, and then add 4 hours on top of that, you get 12 hours.
Regardless, the link I posted says 4 hours after power goes out, not room temperature. I added room temperature because it makes more sense than 4 hours after power is out.

Have you ever been around to open a fridge that has been sitting after a power outage?
Brether, I have had my whole freezer stay frozen after 12
Brother, do I need to explain the difference in a chest full of frozen food vs a chest full of refrigerated food? You cannot compare frozen foods to refrigerated foods.
The link I posted also has freezer recommendations and it recommends 48 hours. So of course your freezer stayed cold for 12 hours.

The same people that tell me to cook my steak to 145 and not to eat runny eggs? LINK
No way I'm following their guidelines

Well if the last two years showed us anything, "the" science is subjective.

Everyone else says "It's fine." without explaining the science, but heaven forbid someone posts the recommendations that answer the question.
You're the same retard that couldn't figure out why a towel helps with resting BBQ. Is there a reason you feel the need to hijack most threads you post in with nonsense like this?
ETA this is not an invitation for you to again make your stupid argument about the towel btw, so please stop before you start.

Yes, I’m the retard who says it’s best to use an insulated cooler to retain the heat vs a towel (when letting it rest for a lengthy amount of time, not a short time) because an insulated chest is designed to insulate and the environmental temperature will equal out eventually. That’s me.
I was responding to the thread by posting recommendations then responding to replies. Now I’m a hijacker too?

I post a link answering the questions and even said common sense can be applied to extend the time they gave.
You think I’m wrong.
You call me a retard and put me down.
And it’s me who thinks I’m smarter than you?

I lived and traveled in Asia for several years. I am not the best person to ask about whether you can survive eating questionable food.
Posted on 8/12/22 at 6:57 pm to SixthAndBarone
The answer greatly depends on how much food (i.e. water mass) was in the fridge to begin with, as well as the quality of the fridge insulation. Thermodynamics.
The -food itself- has to reach 40-140-4 to be an automatic toss, and that's only a rule if you're serving the public, not for personal use. From the description it's not clear whether that happened.
If it was my home fridge and I didn't have geriatrics or infants to feed, I'd let it cool back down then go through it all using my nose and looking for anything unusual. We suffer DEMCO and my whole family is still alive.

Nice one Ole Geauxt
6th - your pastrami thread was inspiring. Made me want to re-attempt my own version many years later. Maybe its time for recalibration?
Animosity is not what this board is about. It's tiring. Let's cook.

OG, where have you been?
I wish SAB and Batman would ignore each other on this board. I enjoy SAB contributing to the competitions, but other posts ruin that.

Subzero? It's fine
Anything else throw out your meat and dairy. Veggies and condiments will be fine.
