That's a yes. I don't put my gumbo over potato salad. It's over rice and occasionally I'll have a side of potato salad with it to dip.

I chose potato salad over rice this past weekend. Dam fine choice I made.

Rice. All day. Every day. Potato salad belongs on the side.

On the side, yes. I don’t dip, but I do alternate bites.
In the bowl, no. I don’t like the muddy mixed up slurry effect.

Gumbo over rice with a scoop of potatoe salad in the bowl

I remember thinking "what the frick are they doing?" the first time I saw it. Then I tried it, cautiously, carefully. Loved it. I do it whenever I get the chance now.

I used to put potato salad in gumbo until I was introduced to a baked sweet potato in gumbo. much better than potato salad and it doesn't melt in the juice.
