Merry Christmas all!

very cool.

for the first time in many years, i didn't receive anything cooking related for Christmas.

of course, i did spend a good bit of money this summer/fall on sausage making equipment--books, electric meat grinder, and a vertical sausage stuffer. Guess that was my culinary christmas gift to myself!

I bet you can use the same controller for fermentation control......

Eddie, I expect some sausage discussion from you on this board. Very interested in that subject.

I finally got the stand mixer that I wanted. Looks like I finally get to make some breads!

will do. i'm pretty excited about this new hobby. i've been making boudin for a couple of years but i wouldn't put it in casing...i'd just hand chop the cooked meat/veg, mix with rice, and eat the loose meat on crackers/bread. first thing i did when i bought my equipment was make and case a batch. came out nice. just made my first batch of smoked pork sausage last weekend. not bad for a first effort but i've got some tweaking to do.

i also started doing bread this fall as well. picked up a couple of Peter Reinhart's books. i've made some really good french bread and pizza dough. tried to get a sour dough starter going but didn't cover it tight enough one night and it got flies in it...a weeks worth of countertop fermenting down the drain...

I got a $100 gift card to Rouses. Not sure if I should buy something crazy or just use it for making groceries.

Got myself a Chargriller Akorn Kamado style grill. Smoking turkey breast on it now to go with the turkey in the Big Easy oil-less fryer, which I also got for myself. Merry Christmas to me!

Anyone have this? It's ridiculously long (almost 900 pages), and not really a cookbook. But the parts I've skimmed have seemed really informative...I think it's going to become something of a cooking encyclopedia in my kitchen.

Upgraded and up sized the rice cooker. I never used a rice cooker until last Christmas, but they make really good rice and its so easy.

some personalized spatulas from Wms Sonoma and a new Henckel bread knife.
