Phrasing is really dumb, but it's only $5. Probably isn't discouraging anyone from going.

Smart move on their part, IMO.

Makes sense. It would be next to impossible to charge an entry fee.

It seems like they have improved the layout of things and it didn't seem as bad the past two year.
Of course it could have been because I went earlier in the day.

I would be willing to bet, some vendors wouldn't turn down business, because you didn't have a wristband.
I was talking about that months ago with someone, when the idea was being floated around.

Went the first 2 years.

Will never go again.

So not worth it to deal with the huge crowds and bullshite.

Instead, that day, go to your favorite po-boy place, order your favorite po-boy and a Barq’s, and peacefully enjoy it sitting down in comfort. Trust me, it will be a million-times-better experience.

The last two years we've gone at opening, maybe 10am? Virtually no waiting in line. We are done by 1130 when crowds are thickening.

Except for the fact that a lot of the vendors sell things at the fest that aren't on their normal menus.

Blue Oak - brisket pastrami po boy
Boucherie - hot sausage po boy
GW Fin's - lobster po boy
Jacques Imo's - duck po boy
Mahony's - oysters and brie po boy
Parkway's bbq beef with melted pepper jack and slaw
Seither's - redfish po boy
Godfather po boy from Vincent's
Etc.

It's going to be a mess when some people wait +20 minutes in line and are turned away because they don't have a band. This can be solved by selling bands at all booths, but I don't see that happening.

I gotta agree---the concept is fun, I like a good street party & regular patronize many businesses on Oak. But there are too damn many ppl squashed into too small a space. Not pleasant, insufficient places to sit & hang out, too crowded to even interact with most of the businesses....it's a victim of its own popularity. The lure of "specialty" poboys isn't enough to make me wait in 20 minute lines, then have no place (with shade, or seating, or a view, etc) to enjoy said poboy.

You can basically get this po boy any time at Parkway. Ask for a "James Brown" -- bbq beef, pepper jack, and fried shrimp.

In fact, this is better than what they'll have at PBF.

I'm not upset about not working this year. I've worked the last 5 years, and always been fun, but I'm sure some people will bitch out the wrong ones.
