Pit Boss Pellet Grill

I have two friends that each have one and they rave about them. Granted, they've only owned them for less than a year so I can't speak to durability but other than that, they seem very pleased. Just my observations but I don't care for how the temp dial is in 50 degree increments. You can set it to 250 or 300 but not 275, for example. I do however, like the sear feature it has, though I've never personally used it.

Mine goes 200-225-250-300-350-400-450-500. not sure why they didn't put more 25 degree increments in there.

I believe all Pit Bosses come with a 5 year warranty, so that's a perk. My pellet grill's control panel screen got so dim I couldn't make out the numbers anymore (but my own probes showed that the temp settings/controller still worked).

Emailed Pit Boss and they sent me an entire control panel with instructions to replace it. Haven't done it yet because I use my thermapro anyway.

Thats what I have. Its my favorite piece of equipment. I did some fresh venison straps last night.

Have the 1100 for 2 years now. Good entry to the pellet world. Now I want a Yoder, but the Pit Boss is like 1/5th the price. Almost got a Traeger my buddy has, glad I didn't.

Pros: Cheap, grill space, sear slider mechanism, front and side shelf, 40 lb hopper, smoke setting, 4 year warranty, build quality is solid, free delivery and setup

Cons: Hot spot in middle due to sear slider even when closed, preset temps (smoke, 200, 225, etc), goofy arse logo I took off the front), ash clean out is a pain

Highly recommend it. Done many overnight cooks, and works well for grilling -- can even grill open flame over 600 degrees. Sear slide system is great, but does create a slight hot spot in the middle to account for. Temp probes that come with it are adequate, but got the Thermoworks Signals which is fantastic. Nothing like putting some meat on, and leaving the house and check temps via phone with absolutely no worry about temps.

I sometimes use a supplement pellet tube on longer cooks, but I find the smoke profile very suitable on its own. Use Lumberjack and Pit Boss competition pellets mostly. Also if you get the Pit Boss, there is the unnecessary metal tray on the very bottom (not the heat shield) that really messed up heat distribution. Read about it online, tried it with and had problems, took it out, no problems at all.
