Lots of restaurants use Sysco and "dress it up". Don't knock it until you've been in the kitchen of your "favorite, classy" restaurant. Check this out, scroll all the way down and have a look around.

What are we looking for?

As an aside, I have no doubt that some of people's favorites buy from Sysco.

Link doesn't tell me much.

Can I hear some specific examples of high end places buying premade foods from Sysco and doctoring them up?

Of course they do. People think the food tastes better from a nicer more expensive place. its part of our mental being.

20/20 did a special years ago where they heated up frozen dinners and doctored them up at a high end 4 star restaurant. They had hidden cameras and microphones and 95% of the people were going on and on and about how great the food was.

Yes, but they didn't have the sophisticated and refined palates of the Food and Drink Board.

The Wall Street Journal did a similar thing with wine. They switched the labels or expensive wines with the cheap ones. The tasters chose the cheap ones with the expensive labels.

Have an upvote. You have 2 downvotes already. People don't like that sort of news.

Wine and food are two completely different animals

I would imagine a message board dedicated to food and drink would have a group of people with exactly that

I buy the little soft shell crabs for frying. They're awesome appetizers.

The wine thing is 100% true. My brother in law has been in the wine business for 15 years and told me they do countless focus groups and 95% of people can’t tell the difference between a $5 bottle and a $100 bottle.

I think everyone with half a brain knows that the food distribution system has changed a lot over the last 10 years and yes, Sysco has a very deep product line with some great items. Soups were always something that they get get good stuff out to restaurants. I'm sure just about every restaurant in the country uses Sysco or something similar for certain items.

With that said, it's still acceptable to make fun of a place by calling it a Sysco shop. You know the kind of places where no real cooking is happening and everything comes frozen and pre-packaged including the sauces and it's just microwaves and such.

Probably. But most of the ones who think they fit into that realm likely do not.

Heck, I'm here.

Sysco and similar companies sell a wide array of things, not just pre made frozen stuff. It’s up to the individual place to order the good shite.

Meh, I find it hard to believe with a wine priced that low. Now if you bumped that up to say $20 vs $100 bottle, yeah I agree that the general public couldn't tell the difference most of the time. I know I couldn't. That's why I've only spent more than $25 for a bottle of wine once in my life.

As do most steak places in the city. Some aren’t even selling prime

I’d rather a prime Sysco steak than some chewy grass fed farm to table steak some places charge a premium for. Put the farm name on the menu and add $15 to the price
