I see nothing wrong with this if it's a good product and they don't advertise it as made in house. I would much rather them source from a local bakery and give them credit on the menu.

It’s perfectly fine to ask the waiter, “are the desserts made in house?” Most will be honest, as few restaurants below fine dining level have the staff or space to do pastry. Some will buy from nearby bakeries, others use Sysco, etc.

Most of the best desserts I’ve had have been brought in from local bakeries.

With Food and labor costs on the rise, sometimes it makes the most monetary sense to use Sysco for certain things
