We went there around 10. Seemed like it was overrun with just turned 21'ers. Not really what i was hoping for. But around 11:30 they cleared out and the older crowd was there.
I was there after work for happy hour around 4-6:30. It was mostly 25-40 crowd.

The bar situation was a clusterfrick. It was about 5 deep at the bar of assholes just standing by the bar talking. I had to fight my way past the observers to actually order something. That and the bitches ordering cheap wine and douche's ordering bud light were pissing me off.

I agree. The bar doesn't make sense to me either. If you aren't in a barstool it can be work to get a beer.

I actually heard a bartender turn around and say to another bartender, "Newcastle. Dumbass", after the guy next to me ordered one. As much as you might think such, you can't do that, and you sure don't want to get a reputation for being those kinds of bartenders in a place that size that needs more than just beer aficionados to support it.

Also asked me if i preferred chilled glass or unchilled
I was asked that once as well, but not for the next 3. Inconsistency.

I agree. part of the reason i hate the bartenders at the cove. My "anger" at the bud light drinker i mentioned before, was that he was at the bar in front of me for awhile deciding on a beer, then he orders a bud light, and camps at the bar. Ergo, i used bud light in a derogatory way, which i know draws the ire of some of the non-beer mavens here.

As stated before, i don't care if you drink BMC. Drink what you want. I have a black friend that drinks BMC.

It was pretty good. I don't really drink much Abita, if i can get my hands on something else, but just about every other Craft beer week special was gone.

But it was hot that day, so i would have rathered something hoppy.

I enjoy the place.

The prices are a little high (especially on food) but it's not like Cove was cheap at all on their craft beer.

And I'll pay a dollar more per pint to be in a smoke free bar.

Is there smoking in the front bar @ Cove where they have the taps?

No, but it doesn't do much good when the rest of the place allows smoking and the restrooms are closer to the main bar. I still stink when I leave.

I like having table service at a bar. Or couch service. That's nice.

I'm really not sure how I feel about the place. I think they have logistics to fix with ordering from the bar. I wish they had seating around the bar to discourage folks from standing 5 deep in front of the bar.

I don't know. I'll probably try to check it out again this weekend.

To be fair, the guy with the beard you're referring to has worked at bulldog for years where they are required I ask about the glass. It may not be required (though it should be) at Pelican and he is just doing it out of habit.

I agree about the bartenders though. The ones who came over from Bulldog and Cove know ther shite but the chicks don't seem to.

It is. They are supposed to ask every time.

They are just as bad about not asking, in my experience.

I think that the bar itself isn't super large in relation to the size if the place. I notice lots of people lingering there too.

I hate sitting at the bar in a place where people are ordering from it a lot because I feel like I'm in people's way.

IMO.. Pelican is done best sitting at a table or on the couches and getting a waitress.

If I couldn't get a table or couch, I'd probably leave honestly.

I'm not trying to be nitpicky, like TD tends to get when anything new opens up. I'm just saying my experience from the bar was as stated.

I will continue to go back. Probably will go this weekend, seeing that i don't have any wedding stuff to do, and i can actually just hang out this weekend. I really hope it succeeds. I like having the option of more than 2 bars to go to, that have multiple beer choices. I think they can do well, because those of us that don't smoke, would rather not smell like an ash tray when we leave a bar.
