$16.44 + 9.5% = $18.00 @ the source. $4.11 for a world class beer is cheap. Across the country small brewery’s are collecting $25 for similar beer.
I'm not suggesting Parish is not justified with their prices just saying they had set a retail baseline with Ghost and I can certainly see some people balking at the higher price.
I certainly was a little shocked at first when I saw the price.

We just got finished with Summer of Ghost where a 4 pack could be had for $10.99.
What was the price at the brewery, though? Was it $14?

Everyone falls all over themselves to buy $11 bottles of BCBS or $20 4-packs of KBS or $22 bottles of CBS, but Parish is the ones out of line here?
I agree with this point, it is comparing apples to apples. That point is why I haven't bought BCBS or CBS this year, and only bought a single BCBS last year. I bought some KBS for a couple of releases but it's more than I want to pay so I didn't buy it either. When I saw CBS was literally $1/oz I laughed.

But you're missing my point. Nobody bats an eye paying $7.70 plus tip ($7 beer, 70 cents tax) on a pint of Envie at Chimes East, of which the brewery gets about 50 cents. But we draw the line at $4.50 for a bottle of much more rare beer that the brewery gets to keep all the revenue?
You're still comparing two different situations, but yes. I will pay $6 or $7 for an envie with dinner at a restaurant for the same reasons I'd pay $13 for a bomber of Crowd Control at the dome.. it's just a different situation. Yes, Envie at a restaurant is $6 or $7 but that DDH Ghost, if it were distributed, would be MUCH more expensive still.
In any case, it's a personal preference for me. If they want to sell it at $18/4pack and people are still rushing to buy it.. more power to them. My largest concern is that beer prices keep on creeping up as hype and demand increase.. eventually I'm just going to be drinking nothing but Envie at home or otherwise

Ghost was everywhere, did not have to go to Parish. I was in Baton Rouge watching the Saints game and afterwards headed to Alexanders and bought a case close to that price like 3 weeks ago.

You're right. I am. I get that it's personal preference, but it baffles me that someone would balk at the price of DDH Ghost, but be OK with paying more than that per ounce in a restaurant setting.
And for the record, I don't have a problem doing either one. I paid $12 for a 13oz pour of Founders CBS at Chimes yesterday with brunch. Tack on tax and tip, and that was a $15 beer. A $4.50 12oz DDH Ghost is a relative bargain in comparison.

I do understand your point. Beer is extremely expensive at restaurants, I agree. I do wish it was cheaper; but if I want a beer at a restaurant that's just the price you have to pay. Just a "suck it up" situation like it is at the dome, if you want a beer. Your only means of protest is to just not buy beer at the establishment. I can't choose what's on tap and how much it costs at a restaurant. At home, I can choose what's in my fridge and how much of it I have.

I see your point too. There is a craft beer store here in Florida that has beer in a fridge. If you pop it there, it is $2 more dollars than if you take it home. Still marinating on that one.

gooey IPA
People are pushing the limits for mouth feel. I had a recently released DIPA the other day and it was heading towards gooey. Tasted great but the feel was off putting.

All you broke dicks complaining about it being to expensive, just don't buy it then.
Its very inline with similar ABV beers of that quality.

Maple Shade is 1.01 oz per dollar.
DDH GITM is 2.67 oz per dollar.
If we have anything to complain about it's the price of Maple Shade. Charging the same as CBS seems excessive. I feel an $18 price point would be more fair, but I'll still be there to pick up two bottles at $25

Brewing an IPA this weekend, save your money and you can have a growler for free.

Well by all means, we should just start paying bar prices for 4 packs and 6 packs at our local grocery stores!

Why? It's essentially the same beer. Requires barrel time. Hops are involved, though not nearly the rate of DDH GITM. But i would say the same costs for maple shade and CBS are the same. CBS is probably cheaper to make than MS due to the economy of scale.

I'll buy the DDH GITM and still pay $5 at a bar for Envie. I'm at the bar for the atmosphere and convenience while I'm buying from the brewery to enjoy at home. There's nothing wrong with either it's just that some people value the atmosphere/convenience more than the beer.

That goes back to competition. Every once in a while someone will say that the brewery market is flooded in LA. As long as people are willing to pay crazy prices for local beer, the breweries will keep charging them. Once the market is saturated enough that breweries have to lower prices to attract new customers, the prices will come down.
Right now, Parish can't brew enough beer to satisfy the existing demand for many of their beers. So prices will be high.
If y'all are paying 8 bucks a pint for IPAs, then you're paying 25% more than what we pay in Portland for a top notch local beer. We pay 5-6 bucks for a pint of top notch IPA at the brewery. A little less in the taprooms.

I would associate CBS with being a known world class beer that everyone realizes is top of the line, while Maple Shade hasn't generated that type of critical acclaim yet...

Believe it or not, Parish is in business to make money. They created a good product then made a demand for that product.
Lines will be waiting for this weekends release so they must be doing something right.

I think it is in NOLA. Other parts of the state, no way.
And I agree 100%. Parish is justified in charging high prices for their beers because people still will line up in droves for the beer. I'm not intentionally hating on Parish for charging that much; it's just part of a market. That said, Urban South is emptying my wallet by producing a ton of great beer, not necessarily charging an arm and a leg for it. Ghost is a world class beer, though, so it shouldn't be too big a surprise that it's priced highly.

I dont understand the outcry of paying $4 more than a 4 pack of attacus or any other of their hoppy releases. We are talking $1 more a bottle. I mean, if money is an issue, buy a suitcase of natty light.
There have been literally thousands of books, studies, and dissertations written on this.
I'm not above paying a lot for good beer, but this DDHGimmickITM is not one I'd pay for. I don't see the added value in this beer. Ghost is hoppy enough for me and I wouldn't get any more enjoyment out of twice as many hops. Personal preference, though. Y'all have at it and I hope y'all enjoy it.

14% ABV and it's a 750mL. I'd pay $25 for a good bottle of wine which would be similar ABV and the same size.
