Parish - Pros and Cons of the brewery

Parish gets a wide range of reviews on here and other social media. A lot of hate and praise for this brewery. What, in your opinions, would you do differently if you ran the brewery? What do you think they are doing poorly? What do you think they are doing well?

Honestly as a brand that is pretty strong on the secondary market in many areas....I think they could afford to take on some minimal debt to allow for in house canning and east Texas expansion.
That's just me though and the business model of no debt is admiralable but may not be sustainable if the 3rd party brewing continues to go to shite.

Definitely for the in-house canning. I do respect the blog post addressing why they weren't planning on expanding in the near future. Makes sense. But I think it wouldn't hurt if they'd expand to A, launch the canning line out of Broussard and B, release some more of their stuff outside of the brewery only.

Some breweries in Houston are using a mobile canning line company. I haven't heard of any problems from them either.
Brew beer in Broussard
Use mobile canning line company
Profit

In house canning. Better distribution on new releases. Less of the attitude on social media. More brewery events

I wouldn’t even say it’s admirable. I think they need someone who understands how to expans a business and can teach them how to properly manage debt to grow their business. I think their idea to have no debt is hindering them more than any debt would. Doing their canning in house would quickly eliminate the debt on building the canning process line

But then southcoast and canbrake still take up a ton of tank space, thats why they started contract brewing them.
As to the op, ive never seen anything negative about parish anywhere but locally. I have friends all over the northeast that are constantly asking me to send them parish hops.

Not sure their cash flow but why not expand the brewery. Seems like there is some land around them to be had?

wish they distributed other things. I love reve, and would have loved to try the Irish whiskey stout they did awhile back.... but hey, looking at the 4,000 cases of ghost they sent up here months ago take up shelf space has been neat

Ive talked to andrew about this at one of the grand reserve releases, the person who owns the land is trying to rip him off because he knows it is more valuable to him than to someone else, he’s basically trying to make parish pay more than the land is valued at.

Of course. That’s business, from both ends. I would do the same if I were that landowner, AND I would take the same approach Andrew seems to be taking and not over-extend myself.

Ah, ok, thanks for that detail.

Pros: Some of the best beers being brewed in the world.
Cons: Too far from my house.

I think some of the ire comes from social media. There is nothing but bad that can come from responding to those on social media. If someone has a complaint, fine. Address the complaint. But do it tactfully.
"Hey, your beer sucks, its overcarbonated"
Response: "Thank you for responding with your concerns. As a brewery, we try to maintain the highest standards in quality and customer service and we can not do that without input from the community. Please explain what/when/where your beer was purchased and we will look into the matter. Someone will be in contact with you shortly and help rectify the matter"
Make it generic and don't get sucked into the rabbit hole of social media. If you have something you want to get off your chest, make a blog post on your website. And never attack the consumer, or another brewery. All of these things will backfire against you.

I never seen anything like this happen with parish, example please.
All i ever see is andrew answering question in facebook groups or trying to make things righy with people who feel they have been slighted.

Never seen anything like what happen? I didn't accuse them of anything. I just said, that I wouldn't go into detail explaining anything away on facebook. Leads to too many trolls trying to get a rise out of you.
One poster stated that Parish tried to take a jab at Gnarly Barley, but I never saw it, so I can't say if it's true or not. That's why I stated, a brewery shouldn't take jabs. Not accusing them of doing so.

And what I'm saying is a canned response, followed up with a PM is probably better than going in detail on a facebook page.
