Not really. Every respectable place to get food has alcohol. I can drink shitty beer, house wine, or not drink at all. I don't need alcohol with my dinner so it's not a huge deal to me
And on the other part. Almost never do I think one place has an equal dish to another. I either like one or the other. Atmosphere and my mood at tghe time will play a bigger factor than whether or not their menu is well curated

No. I will occasionally go someplace if I know they have a specific beer I want to try. But I generally just go to a place likely to have a decent selection but not knowing exactly what they have.
This is pretty much me. If they don't have a beer I'm interested in, that just means it's old fashioned time.

I wouldn't be giving out information that contains your real name around here baw.

Untappd pretty much exclusively. Occasionally I'll Google craft beer near me when I'm out of town and fumble through different places' menus that way.
Eta
I always check menus for food when out of town. Regarding drinks, if I'm in the mood for beer, I'll peruse the list just to see quantity and spot check quality. As long as it's more than normal bmc, I can figure it out if the food looks good. I don't usually check wine and liquor menus.

Eh, what's the worst that could happen?
And if you do a google search of my name, I'm the one that's the parking mogul in Seattle
(to be safe I just edited my profile down to last initial, for any terrorists that might be out there)

Two ways I look at this:
1. If the restaurant is highly rated with a poor beer selection, I will dine and then find a close bar with good taps (untappd or beermenu).
2. If I am looking for a restaurant based on beer selection, I will search untappd, their website, or beermenus.
I tend to select my dining based upon their beer menu or at least the beer scene around them.
Of course all of that is when I am dining alone because when it is me and the wife, we go where she likes lol

Just thought I'd give you the heads up. I'm not the type to screw with someone on here IRL, but some of these shady bastards might.

How are they different from other bar patrons?

I appreciate you looking out. I probably should have just used my last initial all along.

Depends on who i'm with.
If i'm out with the wife, and someone is watching the kids, beer selection is not a deciding factor. We are there for the food and atmosphere. If the beer menu is shitty, they always have bourbon.
If i'm on vacation, again, i don't check for the beer selection. I go with highly rated/reviewed restaurants in the area. If they have a nice beer selection, that's a plus.
Now if i'm going grab lunch/brunch on the weekend with friends/family, and we are going to the usual spots, i'll usually try to pick a place with a decent craft selection over a place without.
Like someone else said, i do most of my beer drinking at home. I'd rather drink what i have in stock than what most restaurants locally carry.

Do you check out a restaurant/bar's beer menu online either to browse what's available or even to make a decision on where to go?
Yes. Primarily to determine where to go. If I'm venturing out for a beer I have a few options, so what is available at each place is going to influence my decision.

If yes, which online site do you prefer? Untappd? Taphunter? BeerMenus?
Doesn't matter. I will say that I don't like this functionality of untappd, I dislike the UI, but I have no real objection to using it. I'll use whatever a place has available.
All this assumes I'm at home and know what places I'm potentially going. If I'm traveling, I despise finding places to go via untappd. I don't want to look through the menus of the 14 "verified venues" near me. I'd rather just go somewhere and talk to my bartender.

Untappd
Use this almost always before going to a new place out of town. I travel a lot for work and I decide on where I'm drinking based on what i find in the app. Most of the beer bars are on there and makes it easy.
If they use another app or website then i'll visit when i'm there.

I mean, do people just come into the bars you go to and tell you they're a beer nerd and this place has a good/bad taplist?
Posted on 3/28/18 at 7:26 pm to BMoney
It depends...
Casual places I haven't tried before certainly I will, especially if I'm traveling... a place I know has decent beer, nope.
I usually use Untapped since that is what most places seem to be on now.

Occasionally if I'm out of town. In BR I know what to expect. And when I do its never to look at specific beers, its more to gauge overall selection.
Posted on 3/28/18 at 9:58 pm to BMoney
Yes, I typically do. I’ll check Untappd or TapHunter first before actually trying to browse a beer menu on venue’s website. It seems like more and more places are listing their menus on these apps, which I certainly appreciate.
Posted on 3/29/18 at 8:16 am to BMoney
I usually check. Used to be strictly Beer Menus but now with more switching to Untappd I check both. Personally, I'd rather Untappd if I could choose just one.

I usually like to be surprised. If I'm going to an unfamiliar area I might pull up the restaurant's site.
