For the beer people here.

Do you check out a restaurant/bar's beer menu online either to browse what's available or even to make a decision on where to go?

If yes, which online site do you prefer? Untappd? Taphunter? BeerMenus?

Doing a little research here and appreciate the responses.

Craft beer scene is bigger than ever and I expect anywhere I go that’s not a national chain, there will be great regional beers.

FWIW, If im going to a sought after restaurant most likely I’m drinking wine or a cocktail.

I only use untapped when I’m traveling a visiting a brewery taproom

I used to, but it seems like most of the time they aren't up to date (Chimes East is the worst) so it's not really worth it to me

I thought BeerMenus was great but no one seems to use that one anymore. Untappd is probably good but I don't have the app so I can't view it

I hate when restaurants have 100% exclusively online beer menus.

Looking at you Chimes East.

Nope, never.

I only check beer menus online when I'm at a place and they direct me online for the most up to date information. In which case I look at whichever one they are using and updating. And even then I find that they are rarely 100% up to date.

No. At a restaurant, I'm there for the food.

No. At a bar, if all they have is shite beer, I can get down with that.

Besides people fighting and loud drunk girls, beer nerds are the worst bar patrons I want to see walk in the place

Honestly, no. If I’m in my hometown, I usually have a good idea of what places will have. And I know the spots that consistently have good beer, whatever it is.

And if I’m traveling, I’ll usually try to go to breweries rather than bars for beer, and since I’m there to try new things I don’t need to see what they’ve got since it’s all new to me.

I tried using an app for Spirits, but I had trouble using it. Then, they switched to another one and I gave up.

No. I will occasionally go someplace if I know they have a specific beer I want to try. But I generally just go to a place likely to have a decent selection but not knowing exactly what they have.

I'm there to enjoy time with someone first, food second and if there is good beer it's a bonus.

So a restaurant's beer (as well as wine and spirits) selection has zero influence over whether you're more or less likely to visit it? Serious question.

So if restaurants A & B both have the same dish that you like equally, are located the same distance from your house, but restaurant A has a well curated beer/wine/liquor selection, while restaurant B puts no effort into their alcoholic beverage selection, it's still a flip of the coin as to which place you'd go to?

Just curious.

Same. I only occasionally drink beer when going to restaurants. Most beer drinking is done at home, or at bars.

It definitely makes a difference to me, but I'm not going to look online and see which beers are on tap at a certain time. Especially because it's not likely to even be up to date. Places that are reputable for having a good selection will get priority though.

It does influence me, but it's more of a "oh and they have ________ on tap too." So not a deciding factor necessarily.

Edit: In my experience places that have good beer/alcohol menus are places that put thought into other things so I'm probably more likely to go anyway. Make sense?
