I love finding yogurt that is expired by 2 to 3 weeks.

I don't understand how y'all keep getting "bad" meat and/or produce?? So walk me through it, when you get over to the bell peppers for example of the hundred bell peppers that are there do you dig through them all and get a bad one and put in your buggy and go check it out? And when you get back to the meat counter you don't ask your butcher for fresh ground meat?? I sure hear a lot of bitching about grocery stores, but it sounds like y'all really don't know how to shop. (all those complaining)
Yes, us food board posters are clueless when it comes to grocery shopping. Ya got us pegged
My Rouses experiences have been pretty universally terrible vs the Leblancs stores they took over.
Bell pepper example of yours boils down to
Leblancs: 90 great peppers 10 mediocre
Rouses : 18 shitty peppers
Meat example
Leblancs: well stocked never got bad meat, even on the markdown stuff
Rouses: bad meat 2-3 days before the printed expiration and a large selection of shite that expires that day

Ok fair enough.
The rumor I've heard concerning the Rouses take over of LeBlanc's is that none of the employees were happy about it, so they were supossedly trying to sabotage the stores.
I can't speak for all grocery stores everywhere, but there's not a grocery store in America that doesn't have flaws.

It’s funny. The Rouses stores I’ve been to in Mandeville, New Orleans, Thibodaux, and Houma were all nice, clean, courteous, and well run. Some of the prepared stuff isn’t my thing, but that’s got it's target market.
The one thing people in this thread are neglecting to acknowledge is the most obvious. Look at your labor pool. It’s no wonder the Baton Rouge Rouses are terrible.

The article I was reading the other day about how they expect online shopping to take over said that brick and mortar stores are focusing on prepared stuff , hence the decline of Winn Dixie type stores.
Anyway I agree with you about the labor pool, Net.

The final straw for me was when I fixed a salad and the shredded Parmesan cheese was green with mold. Do you have any idea how long that cheese has to remain on that salad bar to get mold!
I Called an employee over to have them remove the cheese and noticed when they pulled containers none had dates noting when it was prepped.
Made a phone call to speak to the manager and 6 months later still no call.
Another time employee who was working deli check out had cell phone charging where you get forks, napkins etc. That area was out of everything and every table in areas was a wreck. She was sitting down have a bag of chips with a fellow worker not checking anyone out. This was a weekday lunch.
The was rouses airline. I have had many good experiences with rouses on Juban.

I'll let you know when I find a flaw with Central Market. None to date.

This logic doesn't work when they took over wonderfully run and staffed Leblanc's stores and proceeded to run them into the ground.

Offer higher pay, get better quality labor, it's a basic economic concept. You can't try to brand yourself as a step above walmart/Winn dixie/Albertsons, if you aren't going to uphold that. LeBlancs/Roberts/Mathernes don't have that problem.

Cause they’re local. Rouses is gonna make it with or without the Baton Rouge market.

Oh. Well, maybe they should venture outside of the Baton Rouge city limits and bring back those workers employed by Leblanc’s.

What/where is Central Market?
Talking about Oak Point?

Well they took over 3 stores here in the Pville/Gonzales area (outside of the city limits) and managed to turn them to shite.

I've bought meat that was not set to expire for 3-5 days and I get home and it is rancid... That is a store issue not me checking dates issue.

I agree and that is completely unacceptable.

I find it hard to believe that the same click of blowhards on this board have had such horrible experiences, yet the various Rouses stay open. Perhaps it’s local management or maybe you folks are the most unlucky dozen shoppers in the universe.
Rouses seems to get positive reviews from most except the select few here who still are pissed LeBlanc’s sold out.
Perhaps you should direct your ire at LeBlanc’s ownership. They took the money and gave their customers ( y’all apparently) a big F U.
FWIW, I’ve shopped at Rouses in the LP and Laffy. Both stores were fine. Service was good as were the items I purchased.

there is no excuse for buying very bad produce, but i shouldnt have to ask the butcher to grind some meat in order to get fresh meat
Most grocery stores aren’t grinding their own fresh meat anymore either. They take the big tubes of ground meat and run it through the grinder than package it and make it look like they ground it fresh.
