What is considered the nicest restaurant in Alexandria? Not necessarily the best tasting food, but more upscale (if such exists). TIA

Diamond Grill downtown is probably the most upscale. Quality of the food however can go from good to meh.

Bellino’s is pretty nice, has decent Italian food.

I can’t think of ANY upscale places, mostly casual...

Now that Bistro on the Bayou closed I assume it’s just Diamond Grill

Bistro used to have a lump crab appetizer with 3 dipping sauces that was fantastic.

Bellinos and Diamond Grill are the only places that I would not want to go in without long pants and a polo at least. Neither of them have the best food in Cenla though.

It's Diamond Grill. It's fantastic. Focus on the specials, especially sea bass.

I think it's gone. We went once and the service was so bad the wife said no more. It was in Boyce anyway.

. That's why I rarely eat out here and save it for Nola.

Diamond Grill is the 'nicest' but my one meal there was pretty bad and I doubt I'll ever go back. Bellino's is probably next although it's in a strip mall. Steaks are good as are the specials. You can get a decent martini there. The service can be good or pretty bad depending on who is waiting on you. Verona is nice in a 1970s country club sort of way. Food can be really good or so so. Spirits is more casual than "nice" but the food is decent.

This is surprising to me. What was it, and what was wrong?

unfortunately this is the case. The last two times I got risotto there it was inedible. I will eat anything and didn’t finish. But I would Still go because the place is really nice.

The best bet is Bellinos for food quality and decent atmosphere. It is as dark as a cave so bring your readers To order if over 40.

Alexandria is like most smaller towns. It is real tough for a fine dining establishment to make it. They have to cut corners to keep the doors open, and great wait staff are hard to find
