I don’t think those are soups.
My favorite local restaurant has chili as the "Soup of the Day" at least once a week. That's good enough for me...

I would say no to stew and chili. To me stew is a protein covered in a thin liquid and over rice like chicken stew. Chili is its own thing to me. I’d say a soup has more liquid than those. If that makes sense.
Not to stir the pot, but... Ah, hell, I'm stirring the pot. Does that mean that thicker "soups", like clam chowder and bisques that aren't broth based are disqualified? What about Gumbo? That doesn't qualify, either, does it?
I think that if it appears on a restaurant menu in the "Soups and Salads" section and isn't a salad, then it is a soup. If it is served in a bowl, eaten with a spoon, and served with crackers, then it is a soup.
Just my two cents.

I think those are types of soups.

Well, now you've done it! That pot is being stirred!
I would allow gumbo as a "type" of soup, personally.

Stir away lol. I think thicker non broth based are soups like chowder, bisque, potato, split pea soup. Way I think of it is the liquid weather thick or thin is the main component. Who likes a watery chili. Gumbo...id say could be a soup over rice...thick gumbo over rice is a stew to me.
Never gave it this much thought tbh

Is this clam chowder a soup?
How about this gazpacho?
Pumpkin soup? I think you could hold that upside down like a DQ blizzard and it wouldn't fall out.

Why are you trying to make chili a soup?
But really, make what you want and let the voters decide.

Agree. The way GT defined stew is not how I define all stews (I call my crawfish and corn dish a "stew" but it certainly isn't thin liquid with braised meat over rice-- that's a braise to me), so hypothetically if I was making that, I'd just submit it and called it "Crawfish and Corn Soup".
I would say as long as you are within reason, the voters won't care.
GT - Now you know how I felt when I chose sandwich!

Definitely. If the cube were clearer, I might even vote for that.

At least he didn't choose "gumbo". Shots would be fired.
Actually, I kind of envisioned people picking an ingredient, not a type of food. I'm fine with picking a type of dish, but it does leave it open for more interpretation. It's hard to argue with what constitutes "chicken thighs", although I'm sure someone will be able to do it...

Jax, I will happily pass this back to you at any time!

Hoping someone tackles a lentil soup (Greek & Lebanese restaurant style).

I agree...it has strayed from that I apologize. I had already told the lady i'd pick soup next or I would have probably thought of a ingredient. It is easier fa sho but happy wife happy life n stuff.

I love soups, so I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone makes.
I agree with Darla. Make what you want and let the voters decide. This is all for fun.
Maybe toof will make a mayo soup.

I'm good with whatever the winner wants to pick. An ingredient, a dish, a cooking style, etc.

I love mayo, but that makes my stomach turn.

A noodle is an ingredient! I think we are just doing a healthy back and forth rotation. That's totally okay.
The next thing I have in mind was an ingredient. Andouille was an ingredient. Sandwich 3 times ago. This is only the 2nd "category" one.

Truth! It’s for fun. Plus, I’ve made things I would’ve never made without there being a challenge.

It better be hellmann's and not something disgusting like Duke's or blue plate.
