If I ever win I am just doing "steaks" and whomever nails a rare+ gets my vote.

Chili is a stew.

You have to trace it back to its origin to understand that chili con carne (chili peppers with meat), and other stews, were defined by their lengthy cooking processes intended to tenderize tough cuts of meat. Of course, modern derivatives of chili are just simplified versions of the original & lack prolonged cooking process.

In contrast, aside from containing more liquid, soups were originally bone broths served with bread to 'sop' up the liquid. Of course, just like chili, soups evolved to include all of the examples you posted pics of.

In conclusion, chili is not soup.
