What a tired and lazy thread, I know. Stay with me.

My wife and I are going to New Orleans tomorrow for the State game Saturday morning. We will only be there one night. What's a great creole place to go to? There are dozens on Yelp, etc with similar ratings and reviews. Would like to hear from the boys on this one. We've been to Commander's Palace before and would like to try a different place.

Thanks in advance.

Restaurant Revolution if money aint a thing

Cochon for more casual fare in the warehouse district

I love Peche but i do not consider that creole at all.

Galatoire’s - jacket and tie to sit downstairs, which is my preference. Gumbo, Turtle Soup, Oysters Rockefeller, Godchaux’s Salad, Stuffed Eggplant, Crabmeat Ravigote, Black Drum. Some of my favorites. My arteries are clogging just thinking about it!

Peche is my favorite restaurant in the city. Doesn’t sound like what this dude is looking for. Galatoire’s, Clancy’s, Brightsen’s, I hear the revamped Brennan’s is really good as well.

Maybe you’re right. I assumed he was throwing the word creole around haphazardly and just wanted good food in nola. And being as he’s waited to the bitter end to start looking for a restaurant his choices may be limited. We’ve had good luck just walking into Peche, sitting at the bar and getting after it.

How fancy do you want? May be a little late in the week for a reservation at many places.

It's Decadence this weekend, it would say there is a really good chance everything is booked up.

Yep. If he wants creole and Mrs doesn’t demand top shelf white tablecloth (which will be tough to find at this late date), i’d Go with Mandina’s or Liuzza’s.

All good, but I'm guessing will be booked solid.

Try for some of the other uptown places such as

Clancys
Gautreaus
Carrolton Market
Cavan

Might be worth seeing about Gabrielle

Not sure if it’s creole, but it’s one of my favorites. Especially for brunch.

I had an amazing meal at Cochon the other night and would highly recommend.

Peche/Compere Lapin have been my favorites in the city for awhile, but every bite of this meal was perfect and put them on top.

We had the oysters, the pork cheek, watermelon pickled ribs, peach and prosciutto salad, and a royal red shrimp special. Never even made it to the entrees, but the rabbit and dumplings looked incredible coming out of the kitchen. If you can't get a reservation, you might be able to walk-in and do the chefs counter.

Thanks everyone for the insights. Really great stuff. Since Pêche seems to have gotten the most votes, we are thinking of going there and grabbing a seat at the bar. Is shorts and a golf shirt underdressed at this place?

That will be fine at Peche. if the bar is overcrowded, then I would also recommend Gabrielle for a great creole dining experience.

Hey, I was wanting help from locals for a special place to get a taste for the latest trends in New Orleans dining. Didn't want to search because I figured I'd get fresh answers.

Thanks, we decided on Mother's.

You are correct, lol. I guess I figured I should throw out some kind of category. Really just want a place the locals enjoy.
