Truly a New Orleans legend.

quote:

Arthur J. "Mr. Okra" Robinson, the so-called last of the New Orleans street vendors, died Thursday (Feb. 15). He was 75. Mr. Robinson's death was confirmed late Thursday by his stepson, Teddy Stansberry. Mr. Robinson was a beloved figure in New Orleans, where he was known for driving his brightly painted Ford F-150 loaded with fruits and vegetables through Uptown, Bywater, Bayou St. John and French Quarter streets six days a week.

If the James Beard crew had any decency, they'd recognize Mr. Okra. He's truly a legend.

Loved that Dave Matthews had him subtly on his record Big Whiskey and a the Groogrux King. It was recorded in New Orleans and has a lot of Nola Easter eggs.

YouTube the song "Squirm." Fast forward to the last 30 seconds if you don't like Dave.
