I would say definitely for Uchi, MAD, and Hugo's. MAD had some crazy looking savory dishes, so their dinner menu might also be great. We only went for dessert because already had all dinners planned.

Could maybe get away without reservations at the two we did for lunch (State of Grace and Ostia). We were one of the only tables in Ostia the morning we went in for lunch, probably because it was 11am on a Saturday. I'm sure it is busy at night.

The trip before last, had a great meal at Nancy's Hustle. Also based on this thread, Bludorn and Rosie Cannonball are both added to the list.

For drinks, Anvil is a really awesome craft cocktail bar.. though you want to get there early to get a seat. Didn't make it last trip, but they had a great happy hour the other times I've been. Also, Hay Merchant is a mainstay in the area (attached to Georgia James) and it is a great place to drink/snack.

I did something similar for my 30th birthday last Halloween. I’m trying to remember all the details (I’ll eventually come back with pics), but here’s what I remember:

Brunch:

Hugo’s - GO HERE! It was a fantastic start to the weekend. The food was excellent, the drinks were good enough, and everyone had fun. 10/10 would recommend.

Squabble - Maybe my favorite meal of the whole trip. The Dutch baby and butchers polenta were both fantastic.

Dinner:

Eunice - An absolute classic. This feels like a great NOLA restaurant in the Lone Star State.

Nobies - This was the last meal of our trip and I don’t know if it was COVID, is being full and worn out, or just an off night - but it was the clear low point. The Uber driver had trouble finding the restaurant. We were one of the only tables sitting inside the whole restaurant. The nonna’s pasta was good and my parents had a good time talking to the waitstaff about their record collection in the restaurant. It wasn’t bad, just not as fun as our other meals.

You should’ve definitely got the pot pie and the uni pasta with truffles. So good

I’m not a big truffle guy so that looks like overkill to me, but I can tell they take their dishes seriously.

Wife and I are headed to Houston Thursday. Thanks to this thread and some research, we will be dining at the following:

Uchi (dinner)
Ostia (lunch)
Hugo's (dinner)
The Pit Room (lunch)
Bludorn (dinner)

We are very excited.

Hit Feges new spot over in Spring Branch this weekend, they have got some good stuff going on there.

Not sure where exactly the Airbnb is, but Truth is only a handful of minutes away from Pit Room. The brisket tacos at Pit Room are fire, but I find the standard fare better at Truth. The nicest thing about Pit Room is you don't have to deal with waits that can come with many of the other joints.

I'll have to try La Mexicana since it's not the first time I've seen you mention it. What's the order there?

I like Cielito in that part of town as well for a distinctly more white Mexican breakfast.
