I havent been to that place but if they are getting local seafood I would guess that the weather has a lot to do with it since a lot fish caught locally isnt commercially fished. Its not like they are pulling catfish out of their fish tank like Tony's. Which btw I have never been impressed with their salt water selection. BTW Whole Foods does have a good selection of local fish which hasnt been mentioned.

I'm sure it has to be tough on any seafood market to keep things fresh. But, i don't mind spending the time to find what I'm looking for. So i'll continue to try tommy's and off the hook and any other place for that matter.

I keep plenty of fish in my freezer but those I caught and cost me like $40.00 a pound.

Where would you suggest that I go?
I work in Santa Barbara and commute 21 there and 21 home. Maybe I could bring you some catfish and white perch.
You can buy some really good halibut and tuna at the Santa Barbara pier.

You should never calculate how much it costs to catch fish. The beer costs would kill you.

Ideally, you need to have a large river, a large delta and a large body of salt water all right up next to one another...let me think...where can I find that...

What do they know that you don't?
Like I said, I've been here over 16 years and I cann't find a good fish monger on my side of town. And no one out on this side of town can tell me a good place to buy fresh fish.
There's a superb fish market in Redondo Beach, but I'm not driving across town in L.A. traffic to buy fish.

Me too, on the occasions I want something other than Gulf fish. If I'm just buying that (snapper, shrimp, crabmeat, etc.) I really can't justify the 50% higher on average premium they charge.

James River into the Chesepeake
Mississsippi River into the GOM
Sacramento River into the Pacific
Santee River into the Atlantic
Those are what I came up with.

But they have terrible produce, boring restaurants...blah, blah, blah.
If only we lived on the West Coast...

I had two good experiences at Albertsons last week.
One day I was looking at Romaine lettuce. It was pretty wilted but I really craved a salad so I put it in my basket. The produce guy said "Put it back, I'll get you some fresh lettuce that just came in."
Few days later I got 2-lb bag of medium shrimp for 9 bucks a pound. Butcher said "You don't want that. The large shrimp in the 2-lb bag is 8 bucks a pound this week."
