Can anyone give me some feedback on Mosquito Supper Club? I’m looking for a group dining venue for mid November in NO, preferably with outdoor seating that can handle a group of 15ish. Website doesn’t have sample menus or many pics.

Also considering patio dining at Marjie’s

People who have been say it's the best restaurant in town. I think it's one of those "you go and you eat what they give you" places.

Came to say the same. All I've ever heard is amazing things. Her cookbook is awesome, and I know a lot of the recipes in it are cooked in the restaurant.

They even do small intimate wedding ceremonies/dinners, which looks so nice in the photos.

What people? 30 year olds who moved to New Orleans at 25 and grew up on boxed Mac and chicken fingers, or legit home cooks who know good Cajun food? I’m so tired of “great” places that have semi lame food. I’ve got her cookbook right here, and the recipes seem on point.

But damn, the website needs some sample menus, and some basic info about how many the courtyard can accommodate, general pricing, etc. (I keep doing business type stuff at Link group restaurants bc they make it easy for me by providing great info online, but I really want to spread my spending around this fall.)

How many Cajun places in NOLA?

Maybe Toups and Cochon but even those aren't traditional cajun

I got a Facebook notification today telling me about a new "special" I could reserve their courtyard now and get: A half dozen raw oysters and a glass of "sparkling wine" for $25.

Like, none. But that’s not really relevant to my question.....my group will have a few native La people from the coastal part of the state. I don’t want them to be disappointed if the chef is not all that....I’m asking if her food stands up to a native, critical audience, rather than being pitched at people for whom the flavors/style are a novelty.

So I was just coming to post about this.

They ARE changing their concept a little and Eater did a whole profile on it yesterday. Even with all of the details they gave its still hard to figure out what things cost. But here is a link to the article and some details.

LINK

quote:

Starting tomorrow, September 17, Supper Club patrons can sit at the restaurant’s new wine bar and order a la carte, reserve a spot in the garden for freshly shucked oysters, or dine from a coursed, wine-paired menu with a small group in one of its three rooms.

So you will be able to either go to their wine bar or sit in the patio and do a la carte...

Or do the tasting menu thing.

Still don't have a clue what the prices are.

I saw this as well buried in the article and kind of laughed. That's a super shitty "deal".

What kind of super duper Magic 8 Ball did the people who ran Bon Ton Cafe have?

Announced OUT OF THE BLUE in late February of this year that they would be shutting down after 70 years on March 6.

LINK

New Orleans' original "traditional Cajun" restaurant.

I want to go play roulette with them.

It’s very informal in terms of menu & details. Best bet would be to call & talk to Melissa

I’ve eaten there twice via take out during corona cause it’s around the corner. Best restaurant in the city, no, but the food was very good & the space is very unique compared to what New Orleans offers.

I haven’t been but consistently I’ve heard the same thing (granted pre-Covid), which was by the time you add in drink packages, extras, etc... it becomes pretty pricey for what it’s worth.

Which is probably why they are sketchy on details.

I imagine now that they have opened it up to a wine bar and patio a la carte dining, they will have to be a little more open about it.

A menu of the cost of drinks, a la cart options, happy hour specials, etc would be nice.

Ouch. Dunno if my event budget will bear that.
Marjie’s may be looking better.....

I personally love Marjie's.

I personally want to try MSC.

I just need them to provide more information on their offerings and be more transparent. I probably wouldn't do the dinner but I would do the patio or wine bar.

I read the Eater coverage, and I went to the website---I found it odd to promo the "new bar menu" with absolutely zero info on said "new bar menu"....I can appreciate that technically challenged folks might not update the restaurant website quickly or easily, but slap up a menu pic on Facebook, or give me a sentence or two about the price range and kind of items. Just basic info would be helpful....
