I posted about it a while back and the word was there was some lawyer in the neighborhood with too much time on her hands trying to kill the deal. Well, just drove by and they are beginning construction with a big sign on the fence saying Buds/Morning Call coming soon.

No idea when it will open, I’m sure Covid put it all on hold. But happy that it’s happening.

Sorry if this was posted already, I don’t venture to the food and drink board often.

They so raised the lot by 3 feet or so which seems like bullshite for all of the neighbors to have to deal with during the next rain.

Friend,

We have discussed this already -- that is not the foot of Canal. It is the "Waist of Canal." It also happens to be quite close to the third Time Saver, formerly located at 5243 Canal Blvd.

Are they doing parking under the building? If not there is zero parking for it.

Plenty of street parking I guess.

Yea,It’s not the waist. It’s the foot of Canal Blvd. then it extends to Canal Street.

I don’t think there is a lot of street parking. Between cask, bulldog and now these two, it will be hard to find a spot.

Friend,

"The Foot of Canal" is well understood in New Orleans lingo as where Canal Street meets the Mississippi River, which is where my good friend, The Algiers Ferry, docks. No one calls the southern portion of Canal Blvd. "the foot of Canal." One cannot backtrack and say, "Well, it's the foot of Canal Boulevard." It is misappropriation of the term and creates confusion within local language. I am willing to make a compromise by calling that area the "Waist of Canal," as that portion is confused and twisted and, when one looks at Canal Street and Boulevard as a whole, it could be viewed as a person bending over, with the waist being the area in question.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Parking already sucks there and that is just with the Bulldog and Cask. Where do they think people will park. You can’t park on City Park Ave until you get near Delgado. I guess on Bienville but that’s a block away.

It looks like there will only be a few spots behind the building. The original plan called for three stories with multiple tenants in addition to buds and morning call, with zero parking. I’m assuming that’s why it was held up for so long and now it’s just one story.

That makes sense, I’d be annoyed if I lived right there and they had a 3 story building that attracted lots of people and had zero parking. But I didn’t think lots of people live in that direct vicinity. Either way, I’m pumped about those two coming back. Nostalgia overload in one building.

How does that shitty arse "mechanic" stay in business? I'm shocked no one has given them an offer they can't refuse simply for the property.

Expected to open in October.

Say they are aiming for 24/7 service. Obviously covid will change things up.

Friend,

Thank you for mentioning that song, which takes local parlance and puts it to music. The old Krause’s on Canal and the French Quarter, as the lyrics read. Thanks again, friend.

You know what’s crazy. My dad started cafe beignet in 1992 i was like 5-6 years old. He got the recipe for the Beignets from the guy who started morning call. He was cool with it because we were downtown he was not. I’m assuming it’s the father of the owners now... we went to war with cafe du monde in the 90’s. Sold The location to Planet Hollywood. Someone revamped cafe beignet when the copyrights expired and it is what you see today.

We joined the buds franchise for 16 years. Had issues only to leave them and go to war. Started Ben’s Burgers. Now we get to sit back and watch buds and morning call join forces

Crazy how life works.
