I'm going to be in Memphis for several days later this month for work. I've done some research on this board and yelp but wanted some more advise on must eats (or drink) around the Peabody where I'm staying. Thanks for any advise.

There's only one right answer: GUS's. Best fried chicken on the planet. Fact.

Other recs: BBQ Shop, Germantown Commissary, Central BBQ.

If you want to hit some touristy spots, hit up Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous or a deep-fried burger at Dyer's.

Gus's is like nothing you've ever experienced before. The best chicken I or you will ever eat.

Huey's is right near the Peabody. Great burgers.

Central is my favorite BBQ joint by a mile, but everyone's different, so I'm sure that'll be debated for a while. I've had Germantown Commissary, the BBQ Shop and Cozy Corner. I'd avoid Cozy Corner, but the other two are really good as well

Republic Coffee is really cool for a bagel and coffee if you're into that.

I'd stay away from Beale. It's cool to go once or twice to say you did it, but it's not as cool as people make it out to be. Only great thing is how safe/secure it is. That's not a joke, there are cops everywhere.

Dyer's is damn good for when you're liquored up. To get liquored up, I'd go to Flying Saucer.

Rendezvous, only if you've never been. Good atmosphere, food is meh. Central is good BBQ. Gus has good chicken, opened one in Oxford recently. Flight is a pretty cool restaraunt downtown. Flying saucer is a cool beer joint right across from Peabody. Watch your back at night.

Place called the Beauty Shop was really good when I went about three years ago. Really good seafood.

Hog and hominy, Andrew Michael Italian kitchen are by far the two best restaurants in Memphis and yes I am biased. Restaurant iris and the second line in midtown are by chef Kelly English and his food is pretty good too.

Gus's fried chicken is a must. Rendezvous sucks. Central is okay. Best bbq sandwich is Paynes and best all around bbq experience is Coxy Corner.

My best friend owns Huey's and it's a favorite for locals. His fD started it in 1970 as a bar that served a burger and it's blossomed into a Memphis staple.

Hit up Jerry's snow cones and a unreal Mexican place called Las Tortugas out in Germantown.

If you're staying downtown and want a late night burger go to Earnistine and Hazel's and get the Soul Burger
