Moscona himself isn't. He has that arsehat Ryan Theriot on with him so much that it turns me off.

Gus's is the only must. The best fried chicken you'll eat ever and there's no debate.
We could debate BBQ for days, but Central is my favorite. Rendezvous is tourist-y, but also good. I'd choose Central if I had to.
Huey's makes a good burger and is relatively inexpensive. There's about 20 locations in Memphis so finding one should be easy.
Kelly English's Iris is very, very good but chances are you won't get a reservation. If you do get in, the surf and turf is good, as is the marrow appetizer.
Breakfast, go to Bryant's or Brother Juniper's

Cheap, good seafood near campus? I like University Seafood but want to try some different things. Suggestions?

Will be working there this summer, staying about 15 minutes from downtown, but work will take me downtown often. Recs?

It's not a beat writer's job to hate a school. It's also not their job to like it, either. They're paid to be unbiased observers and report the news.
Higgins is a columnist and is paid to give his opinion. He gave it. If you don't like it, don't read it anymore. Pretty straightforward.

Gus's is like nothing you've ever experienced before. The best chicken I or you will ever eat.
Huey's is right near the Peabody. Great burgers.
Central is my favorite BBQ joint by a mile, but everyone's different, so I'm sure that'll be debated for a while. I've had Germantown Commissary, the BBQ Shop and Cozy Corner. I'd avoid Cozy Corner, but the other two are really good as well
Republic Coffee is really cool for a bagel and coffee if you're into that.
I'd stay away from Beale. It's cool to go once or twice to say you did it, but it's not as cool as people make it out to be. Only great thing is how safe/secure it is. That's not a joke, there are cops everywhere.
Dyer's is damn good for when you're liquored up. To get liquored up, I'd go to Flying Saucer.

He and CPM would not get along in the least. Clark's an insufferable prick from all accounts. Plus he's too old.

Kelly English's place near Iris in Memphis. Anyone been? Is it a place to go grab a drink at the bar or is it more of a sit down place?
