This will be my next purchase. Anyone have one that is good and will last? Maybe one with a foot pedal also.

I've heard combos are not good, as the they can introduce a lot of air in the casing. I have a cabelas grinder and LEM 5 lb stuffer. Works well enough.

Don't get a combo, get a grinder and a sausage stuffer. Cabelas, Weston, and Lem all make good products.

Truth...my Cabela’s carnivore 3/4 is a beast and we kill a lot of animals.

For just my wife and I, our Kitchenaid mixer works well. I bought the stainless attachments. We can make about 20lbs of sausage in about 30 mins. It's enough for us and the grinder is tougher than I thought it would be!

I have a #10 LEM hand crank grinder that works just fine, and it didn't break the bank to buy. It comes with 2 sizes of grates, one fine and one coarse for different size grind of the meat.

It also comes with the sausage making tubes in 3 different sizes for different size casings. However, I found it cumbersome to use as a stuffer so I purchased a designated sausage stuffer that is also hand cranked.

I can put 5 lbs. of product in it and thread the casings on the stuffing tube and crank the handle and a large plunger descends forcing the stuffing into the casings. I can easily do 10 lbs. of sausage by myself in about 20 minutes with the stuffer.

I believe the LEM cost between $80-100 and the stuffer was around $125. I've probably made a couple hundred lbs. of sausage with them by now and they have more than paid for themselves.

Definitely get a separate sausage stuffer. I know a guy that has a buffalo chopper with a hub for a meat grinder and it’s a friggin beast. It can emulsify meats for things like hot dogs and bologna and it does it quick. It also makes really quick work of dicing up veggies for a big jambalaya.

I’ve got an old Hobart grinder from the ‘60s and a Enterprise 8qt stuffer from the 20’ or 30’s, wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Kitchenaid mixer

That’s what I use. It works great for grinding, and ok for casing, but it sucks for boudin. It mushes the rice. I bought a 11# Cabala’s press on FB marketplace for $100. I love how much easier it does on sausage.

I started with a kitchen aid mixer. It broke gears in my mixer head...that I still need to get fixed.

I’d start with a stand-alone grinder if I did it over again.

Skimp a little on the grinder and get a stuffer. I can grind 3 pork butts in 20 minutes with a little basic grinder.

LEM & Cabella's grinders are beasts but have a hefty price tag.

I went with a STX Grinder to save some cash. I primarily use it to grind up chicken/pork/rabbit (meat & bones) for pet food and it's held up well. Made ~15lbs of sausage with it a couple weeks ago with no issues. My arm definitely got tired stuffing the sausage so will likely get a stuffer in the future.

IMO this is something good to start with if you don't want to invest $500+.
