Done by WaPo so probably a bunch of limp worsted Yankees with shite palettes. Popeyes biscuits are the best of the ones listed. Period. Fact.

Popeyes biscuit was the “most traditional biscuit.” It was described as salty, buttery, and possessing a raw taste.

Right. With some red beans, its perfect.

Now, what about those cheddar biscuits at Red Lobster?

Sorry, Hardee's biscuits are the gold standard of QSR biscuits.

Hardee's biscuits

They are quite good. None of those near where I live, but their biscuits and gravy was legit.

All of yall are insane if you think that the puck Popeyes serves as a biscuit is equal to Hardees/Mcds/Bk/Etc.

It has always been their shortfall, their weak link, for as as long as I can remember.

All nay sayers need to gather your four best friends together, get in your Bentley and have your driver motor you to the Popeye's on Springridge Road and I-20 in Clinton, MS and eat some Popeye's that will bring tears of Joy to your Popeye's deprived eyes.

Chicken, Spicy Chicken, Red Beans, Taters, Tenders - all from chicken eater's heaven.

I may drive across town for a 3 piece right now. It is only 9:47 and I might be able to make it before 10:00 when they probably close.

Popeyes food quality has substantially declined over the last five years. The biscuits have followed suit. I still like the spicy chicken but the sides are not what they once were.

I think the quality itself depends on how the store executes. Leaving chicken, sides, biscuits sit for longer than they’re supposed to impacts the quality. Bartering chicken incorrectly etc

Red beans, gravy, meat mix for dirty rice, chicken seasoning, batter were all proprietary recipes to the Copeland family before they sold them for $45 mil to Popeyes corporate a few years back. That’s not something they changed over the last 5 years. Maybe 20-30 years ago when they stopped making biscuits, cole slaw, onion rings etc in house.

The Popeyes biscuits from the 80’s could bring peace to the Middle East.

Popeyes has better food in the 80s. Remember those onion rings? They’re gross now.

McDonalds biscuits are very consistent and good.

Popeyes biscuits run the gamut from insanely amazing to trashcan-worthy based on the location.

I have never thrown a McDonalds biscuit in the garbage. I often do with Popeyes biscuits.

Using this as sole criteria, McDonalds are overall better than Popeyes.

Popeyes switched to frozen biscuits so it’s not surprising.

But do you really want the Popeye's employees doing much more than removing them from the freezer and throwing them in the oven? Asking them to make dough is much too complicated. They can't even get that tiny chicken out of the window, have to walk it to your car out the front door.

Popeye's biscuits, at their best, are fricking amazing. They lack consistency though, at least I've noticed lately getting lackluster biscuits from them more than once.

McD's and Chick Fil-A are probably more consistent.

These people scored KFC biscuits the same as Popeye's though. Even a bad Popeye's biscuit is better than KFC's best effort.

Not sure I've ever had a McDonald's biscuit. I always get the Sausage McMuffin.

I think Hardee's has the best fast food biscuit. Last few times I've had Popeye's they weren't nearly as good as they used to be. Like they're frozen biscuits they pop in the oven that don't rise properly, then they mask that with a bunch of butter. Probably fake butter at that.

Hardee's are very good indeed, but the jalapeno cheddars at Whataburger are a category killer. The heck with QSR, no BR sit down restaurant beats Whataburger. Someone mentioned Red Lobster's cheddar biscuit, I won't set foot in a RL, but the boxed mix is very good.

If an Echo Dot was a biscuit, it would be from Popeyes. The physical properties of those things are remarkably consistent. The only thing that varies is how long they're cooked. They're just a'ight, and if I were forced to pick, I'd go with McDonalds, though they're not exactly great, either. The couple of times I had Chick-Fil-A biscuits, they were pretty awful, so dry and crumbly. Worst of these three by far.

Gotta agree that the “old” Popeyes biscuits were so much better than the new ones, which are too soft. I can recall the biscuits being slathered with melted yellow something before they were served (it prob wasn’t 100% butter even back then). Damn, they were good.
