Warmed a couple of biscuits this morning added some butter and mayhaw jelly.

An old guy I used to hunt with in Angie introduced me to mayhaw jelly. I love that stuff!!! He used to make it and give me some as well as cook big breakfasts and of course biscuits and mayhaw jelly were always on the table. We used to pick mayhaw berries in the swamp and he'd make the jelly.
He's passed away since and we lost the lease there. I bet many see mayhaw trees in the woods and don't know what they are. Remind me of cranberries.

Thanks for telling us you had old biscuits and jarred jelly for breakfast...I'm anxiously awaiting your lunch report of a frozen lean cuisine and diet coke

I think they are in the Apple family, and they are caper mayhaw because they only produce in May. It’s a southern crop. At least this is how I understand it to be.

This is the best jelly imo. It’s such a great, unique flavor. Love it!

There's definitely a certain word for you! These were biscuits leftover from last night fyi. Also what kind of jelly do you eat that's not in a jar? KY????

I am surrounded by currants, blueberries, crowberries, watermelon berries, cranberries, etc.. but I still miss not having access to Mayhaw. That and muscadine have always been my favorite jellies.

You don’t make them fresh in the morning?

I only eat freshly squeezed jelly straight from beans that I pick in my garden.

Mayhaw jelly is my favorite jelly. Mayhaw pepper jelly is also delicious. You don't see the pepper jelly as much as the regular jelly. I buy the mayhaw at farmer's markets made by local folks.

Yea totally agree with mayhaw being a favorite. Since covid cost my dad his job, He's kinda of retiring early and has been on a jelly and jam making kick. So far we have

- Texas peach (Hit a peach orchard while vacationing in Texas)
- Strawberry (Unreal how much he bought from Harris in Ponchatoula since strawberry festival got canceled.)
- Dewberry (Found a heck ton of vines on amite river property this year. Make a damn fine jelly)
- Blackberry & blueberry (Home grown bushes around the property)
- Mayhaw (He and his buddy have a honey hole. Bring the boat, 2 ice chests, and bed sheets to catch them)
- Muscadine (In-laws have vines and made a good crop this year)

He and I have given away more jelly to friends and family I can ever remember. I know everyone is bummed from this Covid stuff that they can't do their normal routine, but I've been enjoying doing something with my dad I never would have done if this wouldn't have happened. Lose some things but gain memories for a lifetime.
