The lid of the fuel chamber might loose some paint from the heat? Rubbing some veg oil on it prevents rust.

It's not the paint peeling, its build up from the fire, I guess creosote? Can either scrap it off or line the top with foil.

There is some metal sleeves or something in the burn chamber

I'm not sure what this means? There are 2 metal sleeves that you have to take out before cooking and then replace when the unit is shut down to save charcoal.

I think it’s down around the vent that feeds into the pit? Seems like some metal in front of a ceramic “firebox” where the heat is. I don’t know if it burning through is a big issue or not. Some seem to swap before using it for no reason except to just do it. Might just be a part that wears out over time that you replace.

Are the 1050s made a little different? Seems I saw one person say something that made me think some adjustments were made before they hit the market?

That grate that leads into the firebox is 100% temporary. It is put in the grill to keep the fire brick in place during shipping per Masterbuilt.

Are you talking about just the grate or the 4 sides of sheet metal?

That would make sense if the sides of sheet metal. The ones that had holes burn through said the firebox was unaffected. Made me wonder why replace it.

So you have yours pulled out?

The sheet metal as well, it's there simply for holding the fire brick in place for shipping.

I'm going to season mine again today to burn out the rest of the charcoal in it. I will take some pictures of the chamber afterwards.

My chamber is almost completely burnt through, I have had it a few months cooking a couple times a week. But as others have stated Masterbuilt says this is supposed to happen.

Thats what it seemed to me but ones on FB felt the need to replace it with some thicker stuff. But if it were me id let it burn out or just remove it. That ceramic is the real firebox.

You're exactly right, I couldn't bring myself to pay $175 for that.

They released a statement saying the charcoal chamber metal is designed to burn through to the fire bricks.

Yeah they are more heavy duty, the app seems to actually work with them too.

Any objective reason, or just your feels? Sounds like they designed it to just hold the bricks in place for shipping. Is there a particular concern with it burning away?

Why not remove it before the cook. Those pics the other guy posted look ridiculous with the burned out metal. Would be worried about the flaking of that stuff getting all in muh que. Something seems a bit off with that design to me.

IMO what I think is it was probably designed to just be in there for a nice clean uniform metal chamber. They didn't realize it would burn through...but even tho it does its not a issue because the fire bricks are the things doing the real work. I cant imagine they would add cost to add that metal in there just to hold the bricks for shipping...but that is essentially what it does

Kamado Joes are just ceramic and hold up to the heat just fine so i'd guess that MB firebox will too? Either way I can save yall on both

Pros: the ease of use is great, I love the fact that you can shut it down and save charcoal, well built, everything seems solid, gets to temp quick and holds it very well, very easy to clean and dump ash, 700 degrees is damn hot

Cons: the app is absolutely horrid, flipping the grates (smoke side vs sear side) is a pain in the arse, the tray to light it is small the tumbleweeds barely fit.

Overall very solid grill and I'm extremely happy with the purchase

I bought one last week. Review is 100% accurate, except my app works great once I switched it to Wi-Fi. I did a pork shoulder and was impressed how it held the temp so well for 8 hours even in relatively windy conditions. Did some ribeyes and can't believe how quick it can get to 700.

To start the fire on mine, I bought a cheap arse fire starter brick. I just shave about a 1/4 inch piece of with my chop Saw and slide it on the rail. A lot cheaper than the other things and works great.

Can’t you just use a torch? That’s what I use on my Primo and what I’d like to use on one of these.
