Finally got mine in got it put together and have used it a few times.

First note, the other reviews aren't kidding, it took me a good hour and a half to put it together and I'm very handy.

First cook on it was first night home from the hospital steak. Well, they were out of steak, but they did have a standing rib roast. Rather than disappoint the post partum wife, I cut it into 3 steaks, and also cut the rib meat off for some grill snacks.

Loaded it up with charcoal, lit it, and set the temp to 250. About 8 minutes later it's there.

Got the steaks up to 105, then cranked the grill to 700. Fan kicks on and 5 minutes later we are there and ready to sear. About 45 seconds per side.

Results, impressed.

Next was some small whole chickens. Set the temp to 325 and let them roll. Very juicy meat and crispy skin.

Also did some burgers and poppers, set to 550. Came out great.

Today, after a rancid rack of baby backs was improvised meal. Grabbed 2 packs of short ribs from the freezer. Thawed them enough to get seasoning on them. Threw them on with some cabbage I had laying around.

Pros: the ease of use is great, I love the fact that you can shut it down and save charcoal, well built, everything seems solid, gets to temp quick and holds it very well, very easy to clean and dump ash, 700 degrees is damn hot

Cons: the app is absolutely horrid, flipping the grates (smoke side vs sear side) is a pain in the arse, the tray to light it is small the tumbleweeds barely fit.

Overall very solid grill and I'm extremely happy with the purchase

Thanks for the review, really thinking about getting one of these. I would still keep my stick burner, but might part with my weber gas or move that to back porch.

Key question, can my wife use it by herself, assuming I have it loaded up with charcoal?

Good review. I'm waiting for the 1050 to come back into stock. Couple of questions about the cons you mentioned.

Is flipping the grates necessary? Does the grate side really affect the final product that much?

More of a statement but, get one of these to light it.
It's what I use to light my big gravity fed smoker.

Thanks again for the review. Good looking food!

So the grates are triangle shaped. The point side is for smoke, the flat side is for sear. My grate grabber doesn't fit it and it just pisses me off I have to get my hands greasy to flip it. First world problem.

It lights easy, you just have to ball up the tumbleweeds to fit it into the tray. You light it exactly like a chimney. Just the spot to put the fuel isn't large.

How's the smoke flavor? Can you taste the wood you put in the ash box, or is it all charcoal smoke?

Is the smoke very heavy?

Here's the part I hate to admit. I'm a pit barrel lover, but sometimes it puts too much of the charcoal smoke flavor into the meat, especially poultry.

This grill imparts smoke flavor without the over powering charcoal smoke flavor if that makes sense.

Today on the short ribs I used a rub with no sugar in it, and used cherry chips in the ash box to see if it would pick up some of the sweet smoke flavor. It was noticeable for sure, not overpowering but there.

Do a brisket, baw.

I'm in the market right now. I think I've settled on a stick burner, probably old country Pecos from all of my research. This looks interesting though.

Great thread, thanks for sharing.

Hey BB .. thanks for posing this. As far as I know no one had reviewed this grill.

What temp did you do the beef ribs on and at what IT temp did you pull?

The temp was a bit different than I normally do since they were frozen. I ran 250 till they thawed then backed it down to 225. Grill handled the changes flawlessly.

I pulled the short ribs off at 205, they were very tender.

My brother is a regional manager for a BBQ chain, I'll get him to bring me a full packer. They typically are around 16-18 lbs.

I bought the gravity series a few weeks ago and am loving it so far. So far I’ve done steaks multiple times, smoked chickens, and burgers. All came out great. Probably will smoke a pork butt next week.

Temps stay very consistent and warm up very quick like they advertise. Been running lump charcoal with it so far and enjoying it over the old smokers I’ve used in the past (wood chip and pellets).

Only gripe about it so far is the app just like everyone mentions in their reviews online. I have an old masterbuilt box smoker and the app on that one works better than this one.

I would leave it with the point side up, (I prefer thin grill marks) and not worry about it.

Thanks for the feedback and the review!

Thanks for the review. Has anyone done a brisket yet? What size packer will fit on this thing? Also, can you smoke on top grate? Does it maintain same temp as bottom?

BB how long do you think you could go without reloading if you were to smoke at 230 or so?
ETA: Would you say it is better at smoking than a pellet smoker?

I've never used a pellet smoker so I can't comment there. In my opinion it's the ease of pellet smoking with the smoke profile of a stick burner.

At 225-230 I would guess I'd get between 12-14 hours. This is with layering wood chunks in the chimney as well.

I want to say it was an hour to hour and a half. Can't remember exactly, definitely less than 2 hours.
